अतोर्जुनश्च प्रथमं शक्रविद्यां जपेद्दृढः ।। करिष्यति परीक्षाम्प्राक् संतुष्टस्तद्भविष्यति ।। ६१ ।।

Hence let Arjuna repeat the lore of Indra at first, steadily. In the beginning the lord will test him and will like to be satisfied with the test.

atorjunazca prathamaM zakravidyAM japeddRDhaH || kariSyati parIkSAmprAk saMtuSTastadbhaviSyati || 61 ||

सुप्रसन्नश्च विघ्नानि संहरिष्यति सर्वदा ।। पुनश्चैवं शिवस्यैव वरं मन्त्रं प्रदास्यति ।। ६२ ।।

If he is delighted he will remove all obstacles. The lore will yield the granting of the boon by Śiva.

english translation

suprasannazca vighnAni saMhariSyati sarvadA || punazcaivaM zivasyaiva varaM mantraM pradAsyati || 62 ||

नन्दीश्वर उवाच ।। इत्युक्त्वार्जुनमाहूयोपेन्द्रविद्यामुपादिशत् ।। स्नात्वा च प्राङ्मुखो भूत्वा जग्राहार्जुन उग्रधीः ।। ६३ ।।

Nandīśvara said:— After saying this he called Arjuna and instructed him in the lore of Indra. Arjuna had his ceremonial bath and facing the east, he, of powerful intellect, received the lore.

nandIzvara uvAca || ityuktvArjunamAhUyopendravidyAmupAdizat || snAtvA ca prAGmukho bhUtvA jagrAhArjuna ugradhIH || 63 ||

पार्थिवस्य विधानं च तस्मै मुनिवरो ददौ ।। प्रत्युवाच च तं व्यासो धनंजयमुदारधीः ।। ६४ ।।

The great sage gave him the rules of procedure for a king. The liberal-minded Vyāsa thus spoke to Arjuna.

pArthivasya vidhAnaM ca tasmai munivaro dadau || pratyuvAca ca taM vyAso dhanaMjayamudAradhIH || 64 ||

व्यास उवाच ।। इतो गच्छाधुना पार्थ इन्द्रकीले सुशोभने ।। जाह्नव्याश्च समीपे वै स्थित्वा सम्यक् तपः कुरु ।। ६५ ।।

Vyāsa said:— O Arjuna, start from here and go this way to the beautiful mountain Indrakīla. There standing beside the river Gaṅgā perform the penance well.

vyAsa uvAca || ito gacchAdhunA pArtha indrakIle suzobhane || jAhnavyAzca samIpe vai sthitvA samyak tapaH kuru || 65 ||
