तत्रावाह्य शिवं साम्बं भक्त्या पञ्चाक्षरेण ह ॥ पत्रपुष्पादिभिर्वन्यैस्समानर्च शिशुः स वै ॥ १६ ॥
There he invoked Lord Śiva and Samba with devotion in the five syllables. The child was worshiped with leaves flowers and other wild offerings.
english translation
ध्यात्वा शिवं च तं साम्बं जपन्पञ्चाक्षरम्मनुम् ॥ समभ्यर्च्य चिरं कालं चचार परमन्तपः ॥ १७ ॥
He meditated on Śiva along with Pārvatī repeating the five-syllabled mantra. Worshipping thus he performed great penance for a long time.

तपसा तस्य बालस्य ह्युपमन्योर्महात्मनः ॥ चराचरं च भुवनं प्रदीपितमभून्मुने ॥ १८ ॥
O sage, due to the penance of the boy Upamanyu, the great soul, the whole world consisting of the mobile and immobile beings blazed as it were.
english translation
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे शंभुर्विष्ण्वाद्यैः प्रार्थितः प्रभुः ॥ परीक्षितुं च तद्भक्तिं शक्ररूपोऽभवत्तदा॥ १९॥
In the meantime, requested by Viṣṇu aud others, Śiva assumed the form of Indra in order to test his devotion.

शिवा शचीस्वरूपाभूद्गणाः सर्वेऽभवन्सुराः॥ ऐरावतगजो नन्दी सर्वमेव च तन्मयम् ॥ २०॥
Pārvatī took the form of Śacī. The Gaṇas became the gods, Nandin became the elephant Airāvata. Everything belonging to Śiva became that of Indra.
