अथ प्रयत्नः क्रियतां भवेदस्य वधो यथा ।। तत्रोपायं शृणु प्राज्ञ धर्महेतोर्वदामि ते ।। १६।।

You shall make such efforts as would ensure his death. O intelligent one, listen to the means thereof. For the sake of virtue I shall tell you the same.

atha prayatnaH kriyatAM bhavedasya vadho yathA || tatropAyaM zRNu prAjJa dharmahetorvadAmi te || 16||

महामुनिर्दधीचिर्यस्स तपस्वी जितेन्द्रियः ।। लेभे शिवं समाराध्य वज्रास्थित्ववरम्पुरा ।। १७।।

There is a great sage Dadhīci of great penance and of full control of his sense-organs. After propitiating Śiva he secured the boon of adamantine bones formerly.

mahAmunirdadhIciryassa tapasvI jitendriyaH || lebhe zivaM samArAdhya vajrAsthitvavarampurA || 17||

तस्यास्थीन्येव याचध्वं स दास्यति न संशय ।। निर्माय तैर्दण्डवज्रं वृत्रं जहि न संशयः ।। १८।।

You all request for his bones. He will undoubtedly give them to you. Make the thunderbolt staff therewith and kill Vṛtra without hesitation.

english translation

tasyAsthInyeva yAcadhvaM sa dAsyati na saMzaya || nirmAya tairdaNDavajraM vRtraM jahi na saMzayaH || 18||

नन्दीश्वर उवाच।। तच्छ्रुत्वा ब्रह्मवचनं शक्रो गुरुसमन्वितः।। आगच्छत्सामरः सद्यो दधीच्याश्रममुत्तमम् ।। १९ ।।

Nandīśvara said:— On hearing the words of Brahmā, Indra accompanied by his preceptor and other gods went immediately to the excellent hermitage of Dadhīci.

english translation

nandIzvara uvAca|| tacchrutvA brahmavacanaM zakro gurusamanvitaH|| AgacchatsAmaraH sadyo dadhIcyAzramamuttamam || 19 ||

दृष्ट्वा तत्र मुनिं शक्रः सुवर्चान्वितमादरात् ।। ननाम साञ्जलिर्नम्रः सगुरुः सामरश्च तम् ।। २०।।

There Indra saw the sage in the company of Suvarcā. Along with the preceptor and other gods he humbly and respectfully bowed to him with palms joined in reverence.

dRSTvA tatra muniM zakraH suvarcAnvitamAdarAt || nanAma sAJjalirnamraH saguruH sAmarazca tam || 20||
