एतस्मिन्नन्तरे दृष्ट्वा स्त्रियो दानवपुंगवाः ।। अनयन्नमृतोद्भूता यथास्थानं यथासुखम् ।। ३६।।

In the meantime on seeing the damsels born of Amṛta, the leading Dānavas took them to their abodes according to their convenience.

तासाम्पुराणि दिव्यानि स्वर्गाच्छगुणान्यपि।। घोरैर्यन्त्रैस्सुगुप्तानि मयमायाकृतानि च।। ३७।।

The cities built by the architect Maya for those women were divine, hundred times more beautiful than heaven. They were well fortified by terrible machines.

सुरक्षितानि सर्वाणि कृत्वा युद्धाय निर्ययुः।। अस्पृष्टवक्षसो दैत्याः कृत्वा समयमेव हि ।। ३८।।

The daityas made those cities well guarded and set off for fighting after taking this pledge touching their chests.

surakSitAni sarvANi kRtvA yuddhAya niryayuH|| aspRSTavakSaso daityAH kRtvA samayameva hi || 38||

न स्पृशामः स्त्रियश्चेमा यदि देवैर्विनिर्जिताः ।। इत्युक्त्वा ते महावीरा दैत्यास्सर्वे युयुत्सवः ।। ३९।।

“We will never touch these women if we were to be defeated by the gods.” After saying this, the heroic Daityas became eager to fight.

सिंहनादन्ततश्चक्रुश्शंखान्दध्मुः पृथक्पृथक्।। पूरयन्त इवाकाशं तर्पयन्तो बलाहकान्।। ४०।।

They roared like lions. Severally they blew their conches as if filling the sky and propitiating the clouds.
