अबो॑ध्य॒ग्निः स॒मिधा॒ जना॑नां॒ प्रति॑ धे॒नुमि॑वाय॒तीमु॒षास॑म् । य॒ह्वा इ॑व॒ प्र व॒यामु॒ज्जिहा॑ना॒: प्र भा॒नव॑: सिस्रते॒ नाक॒मच्छ॑ ॥ अबोध्यग्निः समिधा जनानां प्रति धेनुमिवायतीमुषासम् । यह्वा इव प्र वयामुज्जिहानाः प्र भानवः सिस्रते नाकमच्छ ॥

Agni is awakened by the fuel (supplied) by the priests at the dawn, approaching like a cow (to pasture); his flames rise up to the sky like stately (trees) throwing aloft their branches.

english translation

abo॑dhya॒gniH sa॒midhA॒ janA॑nAM॒ prati॑ dhe॒numi॑vAya॒tImu॒SAsa॑m | ya॒hvA i॑va॒ pra va॒yAmu॒jjihA॑nA॒: pra bhA॒nava॑: sisrate॒ nAka॒maccha॑ || abodhyagniH samidhA janAnAM prati dhenumivAyatImuSAsam | yahvA iva pra vayAmujjihAnAH pra bhAnavaH sisrate nAkamaccha ||

अबो॑धि॒ होता॑ य॒जथा॑य दे॒वानू॒र्ध्वो अ॒ग्निः सु॒मना॑: प्रा॒तर॑स्थात् । समि॑द्धस्य॒ रुश॑ददर्शि॒ पाजो॑ म॒हान्दे॒वस्तम॑सो॒ निर॑मोचि ॥ अबोधि होता यजथाय देवानूर्ध्वो अग्निः सुमनाः प्रातरस्थात् । समिद्धस्य रुशददर्शि पाजो महान्देवस्तमसो निरमोचि ॥

The offer of the oblation is awakened for the worship of the gods; favourably minded, Agni has rise up with the dawn; the radiant vigour of the kindled (fire) is manifested; the great deity has been liberated from the darkness.

abo॑dhi॒ hotA॑ ya॒jathA॑ya de॒vAnU॒rdhvo a॒gniH su॒manA॑: prA॒tara॑sthAt | sami॑ddhasya॒ ruza॑dadarzi॒ pAjo॑ ma॒hAnde॒vastama॑so॒ nira॑moci || abodhi hotA yajathAya devAnUrdhvo agniH sumanAH prAtarasthAt | samiddhasya ruzadadarzi pAjo mahAndevastamaso niramoci ||

यदीं॑ ग॒णस्य॑ रश॒नामजी॑ग॒: शुचि॑रङ्क्ते॒ शुचि॑भि॒र्गोभि॑र॒ग्निः । आद्दक्षि॑णा युज्यते वाज॒यन्त्यु॑त्ता॒नामू॒र्ध्वो अ॑धयज्जु॒हूभि॑: ॥ यदीं गणस्य रशनामजीगः शुचिरङ्क्ते शुचिभिर्गोभिरग्निः । आद्दक्षिणा युज्यते वाजयन्त्युत्तानामूर्ध्वो अधयज्जुहूभिः ॥

When Agni has seized upon the (confining) girdle of the aggregated (world), then, bright-shining, he makes all manifest with brilliant rays; thereupon the precious food-desiring (oblations) is added (to the flame), and Agni, soaring aloft, drinks it as it is (spread out) recumbent by the ladles.

yadIM॑ ga॒Nasya॑ raza॒nAmajI॑ga॒: zuci॑raGkte॒ zuci॑bhi॒rgobhi॑ra॒gniH | AddakSi॑NA yujyate vAja॒yantyu॑ttA॒nAmU॒rdhvo a॑dhayajju॒hUbhi॑: || yadIM gaNasya razanAmajIgaH zuciraGkte zucibhirgobhiragniH | AddakSiNA yujyate vAjayantyuttAnAmUrdhvo adhayajjuhUbhiH ||

अ॒ग्निमच्छा॑ देवय॒तां मनां॑सि॒ चक्षूं॑षीव॒ सूर्ये॒ सं च॑रन्ति । यदीं॒ सुवा॑ते उ॒षसा॒ विरू॑पे श्वे॒तो वा॒जी जा॑यते॒ अग्रे॒ अह्ना॑म् ॥ अग्निमच्छा देवयतां मनांसि चक्षूंषीव सूर्ये सं चरन्ति । यदीं सुवाते उषसा विरूपे श्वेतो वाजी जायते अग्रे अह्नाम् ॥

The minds of the devout turn to Agni, as the eyes (of men) look towards the sun; when the multiform (heaven and earth) bring him forth along with the dawn, he is born as a white courser in the beginning of the days.

जनि॑ष्ट॒ हि जेन्यो॒ अग्रे॒ अह्नां॑ हि॒तो हि॒तेष्व॑रु॒षो वने॑षु । दमे॑दमे स॒प्त रत्ना॒ दधा॑नो॒ऽग्निर्होता॒ नि ष॑सादा॒ यजी॑यान् ॥ जनिष्ट हि जेन्यो अग्रे अह्नां हितो हितेष्वरुषो वनेषु । दमेदमे सप्त रत्ना दधानोऽग्निर्होता नि षसादा यजीयान् ॥

(Agni), capable of birth, is born in the beginning of the days; radiant, he is deposited in the friendly woods, and then the adorable Agni, the offerer of the oblation, displaying seven precious (rays), is seated in every house.
