यत्पुरु॑षेण ह॒विषा॑ दे॒वा य॒ज्ञमत॑न्वत । व॒स॒न्तो अ॑स्यासी॒दाज्यं॑ ग्री॒ष्म इ॒ध्मः श॒रद्ध॒विः ॥ यत्पुरुषेण हविषा देवा यज्ञमतन्वत । वसन्तो अस्यासीदाज्यं ग्रीष्म इध्मः शरद्धविः ॥
When the gods performed the sacrifice with Puruṣa as the offering, then Spring was its ghī, Summer the fuel, and Autumn the oblation.

तं य॒ज्ञं ब॒र्हिषि॒ प्रौक्ष॒न्पुरु॑षं जा॒तम॑ग्र॒तः । तेन॑ दे॒वा अ॑यजन्त सा॒ध्या ऋष॑यश्च॒ ये ॥ तं यज्ञं बर्हिषि प्रौक्षन्पुरुषं जातमग्रतः । तेन देवा अयजन्त साध्या ऋषयश्च ये ॥
They immolated as the victim upon the sacred grass Puruṣa, born before (creation); with him thedeities who were Sādhyas and those who were Ṛṣis sacrificed.

तस्मा॑द्य॒ज्ञात्स॑र्व॒हुत॒: सम्भृ॑तं पृषदा॒ज्यम् । प॒शून्ताँश्च॑क्रे वाय॒व्या॑नार॒ण्यान्ग्रा॒म्याश्च॒ ये ॥ तस्माद्यज्ञात्सर्वहुतः सम्भृतं पृषदाज्यम् । पशून्ताँश्चक्रे वायव्यानारण्यान्ग्राम्याश्च ये ॥
From that victim, in whom the universal oblation was offered, the mixture of curds and butter wasproduced, (then) he made those animals over whom Vāyu presides, those that are wild, and those that are tame.

तस्मा॑द्य॒ज्ञात्स॑र्व॒हुत॒ ऋच॒: सामा॑नि जज्ञिरे । छन्दां॑सि जज्ञिरे॒ तस्मा॒द्यजु॒स्तस्मा॑दजायत ॥ तस्माद्यज्ञात्सर्वहुत ऋचः सामानि जज्ञिरे । छन्दांसि जज्ञिरे तस्माद्यजुस्तस्मादजायत ॥
From that victim, in whom the universal oblation was offered, the ṛccas and sāmans were produced;from him the metres were born; from him the yajus was born.

तस्मा॒दश्वा॑ अजायन्त॒ ये के चो॑भ॒याद॑तः । गावो॑ ह जज्ञिरे॒ तस्मा॒त्तस्मा॑ज्जा॒ता अ॑जा॒वय॑: ॥ तस्मादश्वा अजायन्त ये के चोभयादतः । गावो ह जज्ञिरे तस्मात्तस्माज्जाता अजावयः ॥
Therefore, they were born from the two. The cows were born from him, and from him the sons of Ajavaya were born. From him were born the horses, and those who were born in both cases. The cows were born from him, and from him the Ajāvayas were born.
