प्र ते॑ यक्षि॒ प्र त॑ इयर्मि॒ मन्म॒ भुवो॒ यथा॒ वन्द्यो॑ नो॒ हवे॑षु । धन्व॑न्निव प्र॒पा अ॑सि॒ त्वम॑ग्न इय॒क्षवे॑ पू॒रवे॑ प्रत्न राजन् ॥ प्र ते यक्षि प्र त इयर्मि मन्म भुवो यथा वन्द्यो नो हवेषु । धन्वन्निव प्रपा असि त्वमग्न इयक्षवे पूरवे प्रत्न राजन् ॥
To you, Agni, I present the oblation; you repeat praise; that you, who are deserving of laudation maybe present at our invocations; ancient sovereign Agni, you are like a well of water in a desert, to the man desirous of offering sacrifice.
english translation
यं त्वा॒ जना॑सो अ॒भि सं॒चर॑न्ति॒ गाव॑ उ॒ष्णमि॑व व्र॒जं य॑विष्ठ । दू॒तो दे॒वाना॑मसि॒ मर्त्या॑नाम॒न्तर्म॒हाँश्च॑रसि रोच॒नेन॑ ॥ यं त्वा जनासो अभि संचरन्ति गाव उष्णमिव व्रजं यविष्ठ । दूतो देवानामसि मर्त्यानामन्तर्महाँश्चरसि रोचनेन ॥
Men have recourse to you, Agni, youngest (of the gods), as cattle hasten to the warm stall. You arethe messenger of the gods and of mortals; mighty, you proceed by the firmament between (heaven and earth). sustains you. You come, eager from above the firmament, by a downward path, and when released (after theoblation is offered), you desire to go back like cattle (to their stall).

शिशुं॒ न त्वा॒ जेन्यं॑ व॒र्धय॑न्ती मा॒ता बि॑भर्ति सचन॒स्यमा॑ना । धनो॒रधि॑ प्र॒वता॑ यासि॒ हर्य॒ञ्जिगी॑षसे प॒शुरि॒वाव॑सृष्टः ॥ शिशुं न त्वा जेन्यं वर्धयन्ती माता बिभर्ति सचनस्यमाना । धनोरधि प्रवता यासि हर्यञ्जिगीषसे पशुरिवावसृष्टः ॥
The mother who is raising you is not the baby who is carrying you. You are going to the mountains of wealth to conquer the deer like an animal thrown down. A mother who is raising you is not carrying you as a child. You are going to conquer the wealth, just as an animal is thrown down to conquer the deer.

मू॒रा अ॑मूर॒ न व॒यं चि॑कित्वो महि॒त्वम॑ग्ने॒ त्वम॒ङ्ग वि॑त्से । शये॑ व॒व्रिश्चर॑ति जि॒ह्वया॒दन्रे॑रि॒ह्यते॑ युव॒तिं वि॒श्पति॒: सन् ॥ मूरा अमूर न वयं चिकित्वो महित्वमग्ने त्वमङ्ग वित्से । शये वव्रिश्चरति जिह्वयादन्रेरिह्यते युवतिं विश्पतिः सन् ॥
We, who are perplexed, know not, O unperplexed, intelligent one, your greatness; but you, Agni, verilyknow it. Wearing a form he reposes; he moves about devouring (the offering) with his tongue (of flame); beinglord of men, he licks up the mixed oblation.

कूचि॑ज्जायते॒ सन॑यासु॒ नव्यो॒ वने॑ तस्थौ पलि॒तो धू॒मके॑तुः । अ॒स्ना॒तापो॑ वृष॒भो न प्र वे॑ति॒ सचे॑तसो॒ यं प्र॒णय॑न्त॒ मर्ता॑: ॥ कूचिज्जायते सनयासु नव्यो वने तस्थौ पलितो धूमकेतुः । अस्नातापो वृषभो न प्र वेति सचेतसो यं प्रणयन्त मर्ताः ॥
Where is the new (Agni) born? He is present in the old (plural nt) and in the wood, grey-haired,smoke-bannered; though not needing ablution, he hastens to the water like a (thirsty) bull, he whom men withone consent propitiate.
