ते प्रयाता महात्मानः पार्थिवास्ते प्रहृष्टवत् । गजवाजिसहस्रौघैः कम्पयन्तो वसुन्धराम् ॥ 7-39-1 ॥
Those high-souled kings set forth in great joy, making the earth tremble beneath the floods of their thousands of elephants and horses.
english translation
अक्षौहिण्यो हि तत्रासन्राघवार्थे समुद्यताः । भरतस्याज्ञया ऽनेकाः प्रहृष्टा बलवाहनाः ॥ 7-39-2 ॥
For many divisions of troops (akshauhinis), with their delighted forces and mounts, had been mustered there for Raghava's sake at Bharata's command.
english translation
ऊचुस्ते च महीपाला बलदर्पसमन्विताः । न रामरावणं युद्धे पश्यामः पुरतः स्थितम् ॥ 7-39-3 ॥
And those rulers of the earth, filled with pride in their strength, said: "We did not see the battle of Rama and Ravana take place before us."
english translation
भरतेन वयं पश्चात्समानीता निरर्थकम् । हता हि राक्षसाः क्षिप्रं पार्थिवैः स्युर्न संशयः ॥ 7-39-4 ॥
"To no purpose have we been brought along afterward by Bharata; for the Rakshasas would surely and swiftly have been slain by us kings, there is no doubt of it."
english translation
रामस्य बाहुवीर्येण रक्षिता लक्ष्मणस्य च । सुखं पारेसमुद्रस्य युध्येम विगतज्वराः ॥ 7-39-5 ॥
"Guarded by the strength of Rama's arm and of Lakshmana's, we might easily and without distress have fought even beyond the ocean."
