At the doorways, the two powerful beings, Krutanta and Kala, were stationed. They were placed at the gates in the form of serpent heads, symbolizing great strength.
In the doorway, Yama's danda (staff) was placed, with a trident atop it. Both the doorkeepers stood there, one being Yama, the lord of death, and the other being the controller of destiny.
On the side of the stage, Mahendra himself stood. A great elephant, resembling a forest, was placed there, symbolizing the goddess of lightning, the slayer of demons.
