अहं चाभिगतः पूर्वं तवाम अद्य मधुसूदन पूर्वं चाभिगतं सन्तॊ भजन्ते पूर्वसारिणः ।। ५-७-११ ।।

‘Today, O slayer of Madhu, I have come to you first. Those of right mind take up the cause of the one who approaches them first—thus did the ancients act.’ ।। 5-7-11 ।।

english translation

ahaM cAbhigataH pUrvaM tavAma adya madhusUdana pUrvaM cAbhigataM santò bhajante pUrvasAriNaH || 5-7-11 ||

तवं च शरेष्ठतमॊ लॊके सताम अद्य जनार्दन सततं संमतश चैव सद्वृत्तम अनुपालय ।। ५-७-१२ ।।

‘O Krishna, you are the foremost among all right-minded men in the world, ever worthy of respect. I therefore ask you to follow the code of conduct observed by the virtuous.’ ।। 5-7-12 ।।

english translation

tavaM ca zareSThatamò lòke satAma adya janArdana satataM saMmataza caiva sadvRttama anupAlaya || 5-7-12 ||

भवान अभिगतः पूर्वम अत्र मे नास्ति संशयः दृष्टस तु परथमं राजन मया पार्थॊ धनंजयः ।। ५-७-१३ ।।

‘Thereupon Krishna replied, "O king, I do not in the least doubt that you have come first. Yet, O king, the son of Kunti, Dhananjaya, was the first to be seen by me.’ ।। 5-7-13 ।।

english translation

bhavAna abhigataH pUrvama atra me nAsti saMzayaH dRSTasa tu parathamaM rAjana mayA pArthò dhanaMjayaH || 5-7-13 ||

तव पूर्वाभिगमनात पूर्वं चाप्य अस्य दर्शनात साहाय्यम उभयॊर एव करिष्यामि सुयॊधन ।। ५-७-१४ ।।

‘On account of your early arrival, and because I first beheld Arjuna, I shall, without doubt, extend my aid to both of you, O Suyodhana.’ ।। 5-7-14 ।।

english translation

tava pUrvAbhigamanAta pUrvaM cApya asya darzanAta sAhAyyama ubhayòra eva kariSyAmi suyòdhana || 5-7-14 ||

परवारणं तु बालानां पूर्वं कार्यम इति शरुतिः तस्मात परवारणं पूर्वम अर्हः पार्थॊ धनंजयः ।। ५-७-१५ ।।

‘But it is also said that those who are junior in age are entitled to the first choice. Therefore, the son of Kunti, Dhananjaya, has the right to choose first.’ ।। 5-7-15 ।।

paravAraNaM tu bAlAnAM pUrvaM kAryama iti zarutiH tasmAta paravAraNaM pUrvama arhaH pArthò dhanaMjayaH || 5-7-15 ||
