कथं वत्स्यथ दुर्गेषु वनेष्व ऋद्धिविनाकृताः वीर्यसत्त्वबलॊत्साह तेजॊभिर अकृशाः कृशाः ॥ २-७०-१६ ॥
'How will you live in inaccessible forests, deprived of prosperity, You who are not weak, yet now weakened in strength, courage, power, enthusiasm, and energy?' ॥ 2-70-16 ॥
english translation
kathaM vatsyatha durgeSu vaneSva RddhivinAkRtAH vIryasattvabalòtsAha tejòbhira akRzAH kRzAH ॥ 2-70-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयद्य एतद अहम अज्ञास्यं वनवासॊ हि वॊ धरुवम शतशृङ्गान मृते पाण्डौ नागमिष्यं गजाह्वयम ॥ २-७०-१७ ॥
'How will you now endure living in poverty in the pathless woods, having lost all your wealth and possessions? Had I known earlier that you were destined for exile in the forest, I would not have come from the mountains of Satasringa to Hastinapura upon the death of Pandu.' ॥ 2-70-17 ॥
english translation
yadya etada ahama ajJAsyaM vanavAsò hi vò dharuvama zatazRGgAna mRte pANDau nAgamiSyaM gajAhvayama ॥ 2-70-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptधन्यं वः पितरं मन्ये तपॊ मेधान्वितं तथा यः पुत्राधिम असंप्राप्य सवर्गेच्छाम अकरॊत परियाम ॥ २-७०-१८ ॥
'Fortunate was your father, as I now regard, for he truly reaped the fruit of his asceticism, and he was gifted with foresight, as he entertained the wish of ascending heaven, without having to feel any pain on account of his sons.' ॥ 2-70-18 ॥
english translation
dhanyaM vaH pitaraM manye tapò medhAnvitaM tathA yaH putrAdhima asaMprApya savargecchAma akaròta pariyAma ॥ 2-70-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptधन्यां चातीन्द्रियज्ञानाम इमां पराप्तां परां गतिम मन्ये ऽदय माद्रीं धर्मज्ञां कल्याणीं सर्वथैव हि ॥ २-७०-१९ ॥
'The virtuous Madri was also fortunate, as I see it today, for she seemed to have foreseen her fate and thus attained the exalted path of liberation and its accompanying blessings. Madri always regarded me as her support, and her mind and affections were constantly devoted to me.' ॥ 2-70-19 ॥

dhanyAM cAtIndriyajJAnAma imAM parAptAM parAM gatima manye 'daya mAdrIM dharmajJAM kalyANIM sarvathaiva hi ॥ 2-70-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptरत्या मत्या च गत्या च ययाहम अभिसंधिता जीवितप्रियतां मह्यं धिग इमां कलेशभागिनीम ॥ २-७०-२० ॥
'Oh, how wretched is my desire for life, which has brought about all this suffering! My children, you are all so dear and cherished by me. I have endured much hardship to have you, and I cannot bear to leave you. I will go with you, even unto the end. Alas, Krishna, why must you abandon me in this way?' ॥ 2-70-20 ॥

ratyA matyA ca gatyA ca yayAhama abhisaMdhitA jIvitapriyatAM mahyaM dhiga imAM kalezabhAginIma ॥ 2-70-20 ॥
