सफीतं राष्ट्रं महाबाहॊ पितृपैतामहं महत नित्यम आज्ञापयन भासि दिवि देवेश्वरॊ यथा ।। २-४६-१६ ।।

'O son, O mighty-armed one, ruling your vast ancestral kingdom, overflowing with people and wealth, you shine as splendidly as the chief of the gods in heaven.' ।। 2-46-16 ।।

english translation

saphItaM rASTraM mahAbAhò pitRpaitAmahaM mahata nityama AjJApayana bhAsi divi devezvarò yathA || 2-46-16 ||

तस्य ते विदितप्रज्ञ शॊकमूलम इदं कथम समुत्थितं दुःखतरं तन मे शंसितुम अर्हसि ।। २-४६-१७ ।।

'You are endowed with wisdom. Pray tell me, what is the cause of this sorrow that has made you so melancholic?' ।। 2-46-17 ।।

english translation

tasya te viditaprajJa zòkamUlama idaM kathama samutthitaM duHkhataraM tana me zaMsituma arhasi || 2-46-17 ||

[द] अश्नाम्य आच्छादयामीति परपश्यन पापपूरुषः नामर्षं कुरुते यस तु पुरुषः सॊ ऽधमः समृतः ।। २-४६-१८ ।।

'Duryodhana replied, "O king, I am indeed a sinful wretch because I indulge in comfort and luxury while witnessing the prosperity of my enemies. It is said that a person who does not feel jealousy at the sight of his foe's success is truly despicable."' ।। 2-46-18 ।।

[da] aznAmya AcchAdayAmIti parapazyana pApapUruSaH nAmarSaM kurute yasa tu puruSaH sò 'dhamaH samRtaH || 2-46-18 ||

न मां परीणाति राजेन्द्र लक्ष्मीः साधारणा विभॊ जवलिताम इव कौन्तेये शरियं दृष्ट्वा च विव्यथे ।। २-४६-१९ ।।

'O exalted one, this kind of prosperity does not satisfy me. Seeing the brilliant success of the son of Kunti, I am deeply pained.' ।। 2-46-19 ।।

na mAM parINAti rAjendra lakSmIH sAdhAraNA vibhò javalitAma iva kaunteye zariyaM dRSTvA ca vivyathe || 2-46-19 ||

सर्वां हि पृथिवीं दृष्ट्वा युधिष्ठिर वशानुगाम सथिरॊ ऽसमि यॊ ऽहं जीवामि दुःखाद एतद बरवीमि ते ।। २-४६-२० ।।

'Having seen the entire earth under Yudhishthira's control, I am steadfast. I live, and I tell you this out of sorrow.' ।। 2-46-20 ।।

sarvAM hi pRthivIM dRSTvA yudhiSThira vazAnugAma sathirò 'sami yò 'haM jIvAmi duHkhAda etada baravImi te || 2-46-20 ||
