[व] ततः शरुत्वैव भीष्मस्य चेदिराड उरुविक्रमः युयुत्सुर वासुदेवेन वासुदेवम उवाच ह ॥ २-४२-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, hearing these words of Bhishma, the ruler of Chedi endued with exceeding prowess, desirous of combating with Vasudeva addressed him and said.' ॥ 2-42-1 ॥
english translation
आह्वये तवां रणं गच्छ मया सार्धं जनार्दन यावद अद्य निहन्मि तवां सहितं सर्वपाण्डवैः ॥ २-४२-२ ॥
'O Janardana, I challenge you. Come and fight with me until I slay you today along with all the Pandavas.' ॥ 2-42-2 ॥
english translation
सह तवया हि मे वध्याः पाण्डवाः कृष्ण सर्वथा नृपतीन समतिक्रम्य यैर अराजा तवम अर्चितः ॥ २-४२-३ ॥
'O Krishna, the Pandavas are indeed to be slain by you in every way, For they have transgressed all kings by worshipping you, who are not a king.' ॥ 2-42-3 ॥
english translation
ये तवां दासम अराजानं बाल्याद अर्चन्ति दुर्मतिम अनर्हम अर्हवत कृष्ण वध्यास त इति मे मतिः इत्य उक्त्वा राजशार्दूलस तस्थौ गर्जन्न अमर्षणः ॥ २-४२-४ ॥
'Those fools who worship you, a servant and not a king, from childhood, As if worthy when unworthy, O Krishna, they deserve to be killed - this is my opinion. Having said this, that tiger among kings stood roaring with anger.' ॥ 2-42-4 ॥
english translation
एवम उक्ते ततः कृष्णॊ मृदुपूर्वम इदं वचः उवाच पार्थिवान सर्वांस तत्समक्षं च पाण्डवान ॥ २-४२-५ ॥
'After Sisupala had finished speaking, Krishna, addressing all the kings in the presence of the Pandavas, spoke these words gently.' ॥ 2-42-5 ॥
