के चिद ऊचुर महेष्वासाः शरुत्वा भीष्मस्य तद वचः पापॊ ऽवलिप्तॊ वृद्धश च नायं भीष्मॊ ऽरहति कषमाम ।। २-४१-२७ ।।
'Hearing Bhishma's words, some skilled archers exclaimed, "This wretched Bhishma, though old, is exceedingly boastful. He does not deserve our pardon."' ।। 2-41-27 ।।
'Therefore, kings, as enraged as Bhishma is, let us slay this wretch like an animal, or gather together and burn him in a fire of grass or straw.' ।। 2-41-28 ।।
'Hearing these words of the monarchs, Bhishma the grand-sire of the Kurus, endued with great intelligence, addressing those lords of earth, said.' ।। 2-41-29 ।।
'I see no end to our speeches, as words can always be countered with words. Therefore, O lords of the earth, listen to what I have to say.' ।। 2-41-30 ।।
