[भस] नैषा चेदिपतेर बुद्धिर यया तव आह्वयते ऽचयुतम नूनम एष जगद भर्तुः कृष्णस्यैव विनिश्चयः ।। २-४१-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Bhishma said, "The will that prompts the ruler of Chedi to summon you to battle, despite your unyielding strength, is not merely his own intention. It is certainly the will of Krishna, the Lord of the Universe."' ।। 2-41-1 ।।

english translation

[bhasa] naiSA cedipatera buddhira yayA tava Ahvayate 'cayutama nUnama eSa jagada bhartuH kRSNasyaiva vinizcayaH || 2-41-1 ||

'O Bhima, what king on earth would dare to insult me in this way, as this wretch of his race, already doomed by fate, has done today?' ।। 2-41-2 ।।

'This mighty-armed one is undoubtedly a part of Hari's divine energy, and the Lord surely wishes to reclaim that energy.' ।। 2-41-3 ।।

eSa haya asya mahAbAhò tejò 'Mzaza ca harera dharuvama tama eva punara AdAtuma icchata pRthu yazA hariH || 2-41-3 ||

'Therefore, O tiger of the Kuru race, this wicked-hearted king of Chedi roars with such audacity, showing little regard for us all.' ।। 2-41-4 ।।

yenaiSa kuruzArdUla zArdUla iva cedirATa garjatya atIva durbuddhiH sarvAna asmAna acintayana || 2-41-4 ||

[व] ततॊ न ममृषे चैद्यस तद भीष्म वचनं तदा उवाच चैनं संक्रुद्धः पुनर भीष्मम अथॊत्तरम ।। २-४१-५ ।।

'Then, infuriated, the Chedi king did not heed Bhishma’s words and spoke to Bhishma once more in anger, addressing him with a reply.' ।। 2-41-5 ।।

[va] tatò na mamRSe caidyasa tada bhISma vacanaM tadA uvAca cainaM saMkruddhaH punara bhISmama athòttarama || 2-41-5 ||
