अन्यकामा हि धर्मज्ञ कन्यका पराज्ञमानिना अम्बा नामेति भद्रं ते कथं सापहृता तवया ॥ २-३८-२१ ॥
'Why, O Bhishma, did you, who pride yourself on wisdom and virtue, carry off the virtuous girl Amba, who had set her heart on another?' ॥ 2-38-21 ॥
english translation
anyakAmA hi dharmajJa kanyakA parAjJamAninA ambA nAmeti bhadraM te kathaM sApahRtA tavayA ॥ 2-38-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयां तवयापहृतां भीष्म कन्यां नैषितवान नृपः भराता विचित्रवीर्यस ते सतां वृत्तम अनुष्ठितः ॥ २-३८-२२ ॥
'Your brother Vichitravirya, adhering to the principles of honesty and virtue, did not marry her, despite her being brought by you, because he respected her situation.' ॥ 2-38-22 ॥
english translation
yAM tavayApahRtAM bhISma kanyAM naiSitavAna nRpaH bharAtA vicitravIryasa te satAM vRttama anuSThitaH ॥ 2-38-22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदारयॊर यस्य चान्येन मिषतः पराज्ञमानिनः तव जातान्य अपत्यानि सज्जनाचरिते पथि ॥ २-३८-२३ ॥
'You boast of your virtue, yet you witnessed your brother's widow bearing sons by another, according to the principles of righteousness. Where is your virtue, O Bhishma?.' ॥ 2-38-23 ॥
english translation
dArayòra yasya cAnyena miSataH parAjJamAninaH tava jAtAnya apatyAni sajjanAcarite pathi ॥ 2-38-23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन हि धर्मॊ ऽसति ते भीष्म बरह्मचर्यम इदं वृथा यद धारयसि मॊहाद वा कलीबत्वाद वा न संशयः ॥ २-३८-२४ ॥
'O Bhishma, this celibacy you maintain, whether out of ignorance or impotence, is ultimately fruitless. You maintain it either out of delusion or due to a lack of capability, without any doubt.' ॥ 2-38-24 ॥
english translation
na hi dharmò 'sati te bhISma barahmacaryama idaM vRthA yada dhArayasi mòhAda vA kalIbatvAda vA na saMzayaH ॥ 2-38-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन तव अहं तव धर्मज्ञ पश्याम्य उपचयं कव चित न हि ते सेविता वृद्धा य एवं धर्मम अब्रुवन ॥ २-३८-२५ ॥
'O knower of dharma, I do not see any growth in you anywhere. You have not served the elders who spoke of dharma in this way.' ॥ 2-38-25 ॥
english translation
na tava ahaM tava dharmajJa pazyAmya upacayaM kava cita na hi te sevitA vRddhA ya evaM dharmama abruvana ॥ 2-38-25 ॥
