यस्य चानेन धर्मज्ञ भुक्तम अन्नं बलीयसः स चानेन हतः कंस इत्य एतन न महाद्भुतम ॥ २-३८-११ ॥
'But, O Bhishma, who is well-versed in moral principles, is it not even more wrongful that this great person, Kansa, whose food Krishna consumed, was slain by him?' ॥ 2-38-11 ॥
english translation
yasya cAnena dharmajJa bhuktama annaM balIyasaH sa cAnena hataH kaMsa itya etana na mahAdbhutama ॥ 2-38-11 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन ते शरुतम इदं भीष्म नूनं कथयतां सताम यद वक्ष्ये तवाम अधर्मज्ञ वाक्यं कुरुकुलाधम ॥ २-३८-१२ ॥
'O infamous one of the Kuru race, you are ignorant of the rules of morality. Have you not heard from wise men what I am about to tell you?' ॥ 2-38-12 ॥
english translation
na te zarutama idaM bhISma nUnaM kathayatAM satAma yada vakSye tavAma adharmajJa vAkyaM kurukulAdhama ॥ 2-38-12 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसत्रीषु गॊषु न शस्त्राणि पातयेद बराह्मणेषु च यस्य चान्नानि भुञ्जीत यश च सयाच छरणागतः ॥ २-३८-१३ ॥
'The virtuous and learned always instruct the righteous that weapons should never be used against women, cattle, Brahmanas, those who have been fed, or those who have provided shelter.' ॥ 2-38-13 ॥

satrISu gòSu na zastrANi pAtayeda barAhmaNeSu ca yasya cAnnAni bhuJjIta yaza ca sayAca charaNAgataH ॥ 2-38-13 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइति सन्तॊ ऽनुशासन्ति सज्जना धर्मिणः सदा भीष्म लॊके हि तत सर्वं वितथं तवयि दृश्यते ॥ २-३८-१४ ॥
'This is how the virtuous, righteous, and good people always instruct. It seems, O Bhishma, that you have disregarded all these teachings.' ॥ 2-38-14 ॥

iti santò 'nuzAsanti sajjanA dharmiNaH sadA bhISma lòke hi tata sarvaM vitathaM tavayi dRzyate ॥ 2-38-14 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptजञानवृद्धं च वृद्धं च भूयांसं केशवं मम अजानत इवाख्यासि संस्तुवन कुरुसत्तम गॊघ्नः सत्रीघ्नश च सन भीष्म कथं संस्तवम अर्हति ॥ २-३८-१५ ॥
'O infamous one of the Kuru race, in your desire to praise Kesava, you describe him as great and superior in knowledge and age, as if I were unaware of his true nature. If, according to your words, one who has killed women (such as Putana) and cattle is to be worshipped, then what happens to the great moral lesson we hold? How can someone who commits such acts deserve praise, O Bhishma?' ॥ 2-38-15 ॥

jaJAnavRddhaM ca vRddhaM ca bhUyAMsaM kezavaM mama ajAnata ivAkhyAsi saMstuvana kurusattama gòghnaH satrIghnaza ca sana bhISma kathaM saMstavama arhati ॥ 2-38-15 ॥
