[व] ततः सागरसंकाशं दृष्ट्वा नृपतिसागरम रॊषात परचलितं सर्वम इदम आह युधिष्ठिरः ॥ २-३७-१ ॥
'Seeing the vast assembly of kings, stirred by wrath like a mighty ocean roiled by winds at the end of the cosmic cycle, Yudhishthira turned to the aged Bhishma, the wise grandsire of the Kurus, much like the powerful Indra addressing Vrihaspati.' ॥ 2-37-1 ॥
english translation
[va] tataH sAgarasaMkAzaM dRSTvA nRpatisAgarama ròSAta paracalitaM sarvama idama Aha yudhiSThiraH ॥ 2-37-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभीष्मं मतिमतां शरेष्ठं वृद्धं कुरु पिता महम बृहस्पतिं बृहत तेजाः पुरुहूता इवारिहा ॥ २-३७-२ ॥
'Bhishma, the best among the wise, the elder grandfather of the Kurus, of great splendor, was like Brihaspati to Indra in destroying enemies.' ॥ 2-37-2 ॥
english translation
bhISmaM matimatAM zareSThaM vRddhaM kuru pitA mahama bRhaspatiM bRhata tejAH puruhUtA ivArihA ॥ 2-37-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअसौ रॊषात परचलितॊ महान नृपतिसागरः अत्र यत परतिपत्तव्यं तन मे बरूहि पितामह ॥ २-३७-३ ॥
'He asked, 'O Grandsire, this great ocean of kings is in turmoil due to their anger.'' ॥ 2-37-3 ॥

asau ròSAta paracalitò mahAna nRpatisAgaraH atra yata paratipattavyaM tana me barUhi pitAmaha ॥ 2-37-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयज्ञस्य च न विघ्नः सयात परजानां च शिवं भवेत यथा सर्वत्र तत सर्वं बरूहि मे ऽदय पितामह ॥ २-३७-४ ॥
'How can I ensure that my sacrifice proceeds without obstruction and that my subjects remain unharmed?' ॥ 2-37-4 ॥
english translation
yajJasya ca na vighnaH sayAta parajAnAM ca zivaM bhaveta yathA sarvatra tata sarvaM barUhi me 'daya pitAmaha ॥ 2-37-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्य उक्तवति धर्मज्ञे धर्मराजे युधिष्ठिरे उवाचेदं वचॊ भीष्मस ततः कुरु पिता महः ॥ २-३७-५ ॥
'Thus addressed by the righteous Yudhishthira, the king of dharma, Bhishma, the great father of the Kurus, spoke the following words.' ॥ 2-37-5 ॥
