[ज] किमर्थं भगवान अग्निः परत्यमित्रॊ ऽभवद युधि सहदेवस्य यज्ञार्थं घटमानस्य वै दविज ॥ २-२८-१६ ॥
'O regenerate one, why did the god Agni become hostile in battle against Sahadeva, who was fighting solely for the fulfillment of a sacrifice intended to please Agni himself?' ॥ 2-28-16 ॥
english translation
[व] तत्र माहिष्मती वासी भगवान हव्यवाहनः शरूयते निगृहीतॊ वै पुरस्तत पारदारिकः ॥ २-२८-१७ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'O Janamejaya, it is said that while residing in Mahishmati, the god Agni gained a reputation as a lover.' ॥ 2-28-17 ॥
english translation
नीलस्य राज्ञः पूर्वेषाम उपनीतश च सॊ ऽभवत तदा बराह्मणरूपेण चरमाणॊ यदृच्छया ॥ २-२८-१८ ॥
'The Brahmin form was adopted by the supernatural being as it approached King Nila's lineage.' ॥ 2-28-18 ॥
english translation
तं तु राजा यथाशास्त्रम अन्वशाद धार्मिकस तदा परजज्वाल ततः कॊपाद भगवान हव्यवाहनः ॥ २-२८-१९ ॥
'One day, while the deity, disguised as a Brahmana, was joyfully spending time with the fair maiden, he was discovered by the king. The righteous king, upon seeing this, ordered the Brahmana to be punished according to the law. In response, the illustrious deity flared up in anger.' ॥ 2-28-19 ॥

तं दृष्ट्वा विस्मितॊ राजा जगाम शिरसा कविम चक्रे परसादं च तदा तस्य राज्ञॊ विभावसुः ॥ २-२८-२० ॥
'Witnessing this, the king was greatly astonished and lowered his head to the ground. Then the Fire god (Vibhavasu) showed favor to that king.' ॥ 2-28-20 ॥
