[व] तथैव सहदेवॊ ऽपि धर्मराजेन पूजितः महत्या सेनया सार्धं परययौ दक्षिणां दिशम ॥ २-२८-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said: “Thus, Sahadeva, affectionately dismissed by the just King Yudhishthira, set out towards the southern direction with a grand army.”' ॥ 2-28-1 ॥

[va] tathaiva sahadevò 'pi dharmarAjena pUjitaH mahatyA senayA sArdhaM parayayau dakSiNAM dizama ॥ 2-28-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस शूरसेनान कार्त्स्न्येन पूर्वम एवाजयत परभुः मत्स्यराजं च कौरव्यॊ वशे चक्रे बलाद बली ॥ २-२८-२ ॥
'Strong and mighty, the prince of the Kuru race first completely subdued the Surasenas and then brought the king of Matsya under his control.' ॥ 2-28-2 ॥

sa zUrasenAna kArtsnyena pUrvama evAjayata parabhuH matsyarAjaM ca kauravyò vaze cakre balAda balI ॥ 2-28-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअधिराजाधिपं चैव दन्तवक्रं महाहवे जिगाय करदं चैव सवराज्ये संन्यवेशयत ॥ २-२८-३ ॥
'And the hero, having defeated Dantavakra, the mighty king of the Adhirajas, and exacted tribute, re-established him on his throne.' ॥ 2-28-3 ॥

adhirAjAdhipaM caiva dantavakraM mahAhave jigAya karadaM caiva savarAjye saMnyavezayata ॥ 2-28-3 ॥

'The prince then brought Sukumara and King Sumitra under his sway, subsequently vanquished the other Matsyas, and also subdued the Patacharas.' ॥ 2-28-4 ॥

sukumAraM vaze cakre sumitraM ca narAdhipama tathaivAparamatsyAMza ca vayajayata sa paTaca carAna ॥ 2-28-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनिषादभूमिं गॊशृङ्गं पर्वत परवरं तथा तरसा वयजयद धीमाञ शरेणिमन्तं च पार्थिवम ॥ २-२८-५ ॥
'Endued with great intelligence, the Kuru warrior swiftly conquered the Nishada territory, the lofty hill of Goṣṛṅga, and the lord of the land, King Śreṇimanta.' ॥ 2-28-5 ॥
