वयूढॊरस्कौ दीर्घभुजौ नियुद्ध कुशलाव उभौ बाहुभिः समसज्जेताम आयसैः परिघैर इव ॥ २-२१-१६ ॥
'With broad shoulders and long arms, both well-skilled in wrestling, they struck each other with their long arms, which were like iron maces.' ॥ 2-21-16 ॥

कार्त्तिकस्य तु मासस्य परवृत्तं परथमे ऽहनि अनारतं दिवारात्रम अविश्रान्तम अवर्तत ॥ २-२१-१७ ॥
'The heroic encounter began on the first lunar day of the month of Kartic (October), and the illustrious heroes fought incessantly day and night, without rest or food, until the thirteenth lunar day.' ॥ 2-21-17 ॥

तद्वृत्तं तु तरयॊदश्यां समवेतं महात्मनॊः चतुर्दश्यां निशायां तु निवृत्तॊ मागधः कलमात ॥ २-२१-१८ ॥
'The monarch of Magadha ceased from battle due to fatigue on the night of the fourteenth lunar fortnight.' ॥ 2-21-18 ॥

तं राजानं तथा कलान्तं दृष्ट्वा राजञ जनार्दनः उवाच भीमकर्माणं भीमं संबॊधयन्न इव ॥ २-२१-१९ ॥
'Seeing that exhausted king in that state, Janardana (another name for Krishna) addressed him, encouraging him like one of great deeds.' ॥ 2-21-19 ॥

कलान्तः शत्रुर न कौन्तेय लभ्यः पीडयितुं रणे पीड्यमानॊ हि कार्त्स्न्येन जह्याज जीवितम आत्मनः ॥ २-२१-२० ॥
'O son of Kunti, a weary foe cannot be pushed further; pressing him at such a time might even lead to his death. Therefore, O son of Kunti, do not oppress this king.' ॥ 2-21-20 ॥
