[वा] पतितौ हंसडिभकौ कंसामात्यौ निपातितौ जरासंधस्य निधने कालॊ ऽयं समुपागतः ॥ २-१८-१ ॥

'Krishna said, "Hansa and Dimvaka have both fallen; Kansa, along with all his followers, has been slain. Therefore, the time has come for the destruction of Jarasandha."' ॥ 2-18-1 ॥

[vA] patitau haMsaDibhakau kaMsAmAtyau nipAtitau jarAsaMdhasya nidhane kAlò 'yaM samupAgataH ॥ 2-18-1 ॥

न स शक्यॊ रणे जेतुं सर्वैर अपि सुरासुरैः पराणयुद्धेन जेतव्यः स इत्य उपलभामहे ॥ २-१८-२ ॥

'"He cannot be defeated in battle by all the gods and demons combined. He must be conquered through a strategic duel," we have learned.' ॥ 2-18-2 ॥

na sa zakyò raNe jetuM sarvaira api surAsuraiH parANayuddhena jetavyaH sa itya upalabhAmahe ॥ 2-18-2 ॥

मयि नीतिर बलं भीमे रक्षिता चावयॊ ऽरजुनः साधयिष्यामि तं राजन वयं तरय इवाग्नयः ॥ २-१८-३ ॥

'However, we believe that he should be defeated in a personal combat, unarmed. I possess strategy, Bhima embodies strength, and Arjuna signifies victory. Thus, as a prelude to the Rajasuya sacrifice, we will undoubtedly achieve the downfall of the king of Magadha.' ॥ 2-18-3 ॥

mayi nItira balaM bhIme rakSitA cAvayò 'rajunaH sAdhayiSyAmi taM rAjana vayaM taraya ivAgnayaH ॥ 2-18-3 ॥

तरिभिर आसादितॊ ऽसमाभिर विजने स नराधिपः न संदेहॊ यथा युद्धम एकेनाभ्युपयास्यति ॥ २-१८-४ ॥

'When the three of us approach that monarch in secrecy, without a doubt, he will engage in combat with one of us.' ॥ 2-18-4 ॥

अवमानाच च लॊकस्य वयायतत्वाच च धर्षितः भीमसेनेन युद्धाय धरुवम अभ्युपयास्यति ॥ २-१८-५ ॥

'From fear of disgrace, from covetousness, and pride of strength he will certainly summon Bhima to the encounter.' ॥ 2-18-5 ॥
