यथा समयम आज्ञाय तदा स नृपसत्तमः दवाभ्याम एकं फलं परादात पत्नीभ्यां भरतर्षभ ॥ २-१६-३१ ॥

'Upon hearing the sage's words and reverently worshiping his feet, the wise monarch returned to his palace. Remembering his earlier promise, O bull of the Bharata race, he then gave that single fruit to his two wives.' ॥ 2-16-31 ॥

english translation

yathA samayama AjJAya tadA sa nRpasattamaH davAbhyAma ekaM phalaM parAdAta patnIbhyAM bharatarSabha ॥ 2-16-31 ॥

ते तद आम्रं दविधाकृत्वा भक्षयाम आसतुः शुभे भावित्वाद अपि चार्थस्य सत्यवाक्यात तथा मुनेः ॥ २-१६-३२ ॥

'His lovely queens divided the single fruit into two parts and consumed them. Due to the certainty of the sage's words and his truthfulness, both queens conceived as a result of eating that fruit.' ॥ 2-16-32 ॥

te tada AmraM davidhAkRtvA bhakSayAma AsatuH zubhe bhAvitvAda api cArthasya satyavAkyAta tathA muneH ॥ 2-16-32 ॥

तयॊः समभवद गर्भः फलप्राशन संभवः ते च दृष्ट्वा नरपतिः परां मुदम अवाप ह ॥ २-१६-३३ ॥

'As a result of consuming the fruit, both of them conceived simultaneously. Seeing this, the king attained great joy.' ॥ 2-16-33 ॥

english translation

tayòH samabhavada garbhaH phalaprAzana saMbhavaH te ca dRSTvA narapatiH parAM mudama avApa ha ॥ 2-16-33 ॥

अथ काले महाप्राज्ञ यथा समयम आगते परजायेताम उभे राजञ शरीरशकले तदा ॥ २-१६-३४ ॥

'Then, O wise monarch, after some time had passed, as the destined time arrived, each queen gave birth to a fragmentary body.' ॥ 2-16-34 ॥

atha kAle mahAprAjJa yathA samayama Agate parajAyetAma ubhe rAjaJa zarIrazakale tadA ॥ 2-16-34 ॥

एकाक्षिबाहुचरणे अर्धॊदर मुखस्फिजे दृष्ट्वा शरीरशकले परवेपाते उभे भृशम ॥ २-१६-३५ ॥

'Each fragment had one eye, one arm, one leg, half a stomach, half a face, and half an anus. Witnessing these fragmentary bodies, both mothers trembled greatly.' ॥ 2-16-35 ॥
