[वा] जातस्य भारते वंशे तथा कुन्त्याः सुतस्य च या वै युक्ता मतिः सेयम अर्जुनेन परदर्शिता ।। २-१६-१ ।।
'Vasudeva said, "Arjuna has exemplified the proper disposition that should be held by one born in the Bharata race, especially by a son of Kunti."' ।। 2-16-1 ।।
'Nor have we ever heard of immortality being achieved by abstaining from battle. Therefore, it is the duty of men to confront all enemies in accordance with the principles laid down in the ordinances. This always brings satisfaction to the heart.' ।। 2-16-3 ।।
सुनयस्यानपायस्य संयुगे परमः करमः संशयॊ जायते साम्ये साम्यं च न भवेद दवयॊः ।। २-१६-४ ।।
'Supported by sound policy and not thwarted by destiny, an undertaking achieves success. When both parties, aided by such means, face each other, one must prevail over the other, as both cannot win or lose simultaneously.' ।। 2-16-4 ।।
ते वयं नयम आस्थाय शत्रुदेहसमीपगाः कथम अन्तं न गच्छेम वृक्षस्येव नदीरयाः पररन्ध्रे पराक्रान्ताः सवरन्ध्रावरणे सथिताः ।। २-१६-५ ।।
'A battle, when guided by poor strategy and lacking in well-established tactics, inevitably leads to defeat or ruin. Moreover, if both sides are evenly matched, the outcome remains uncertain. Yet, it is impossible for both to emerge victorious. If, disguising our own faults, we attack the enemy taking advantage of his loopholes, why should we not succeed?' ।। 2-16-5 ।।
