उद्विग्ने सह संमन्त्र्य ते भगिन्यौ तदाबले सजीवे पराणिशकले तत्यजाते सुदुःखिते ॥ २-१६-३६ ॥

'The distraught sisters then consulted each other anxiously and, filled with sorrow, abandoned those living fragments.' ॥ 2-16-36 ॥

udvigne saha saMmantrya te bhaginyau tadAbale sajIve parANizakale tatyajAte suduHkhite ॥ 2-16-36 ॥

तयॊर धात्र्यौ सुसंवीते कृत्वा ते गर्भसंप्लवे निर्गम्यान्तः पुरद्वारात समुत्सृज्याशु जग्मतुः ॥ २-१६-३७ ॥

'The two midwives who attended to the queens carefully wrapped up the lifeless fragments and left the inner chambers of the palace through the back door.' ॥ 2-16-37 ॥

tayòra dhAtryau susaMvIte kRtvA te garbhasaMplave nirgamyAntaH puradvArAta samutsRjyAzu jagmatuH ॥ 2-16-37 ॥

ते चतुष्पथ निक्षिप्ते जरा नामाथ राक्षसी जग्राह मनुजव्याघ्रमांसशॊणितभॊजना ॥ २-१६-३८ ॥

'They disposed of the bodies and quickly returned. Shortly thereafter, O tiger among men, a Rakshasa woman named Jara, who subsisted on flesh and blood, found the discarded fragments lying at a crossroads.' ॥ 2-16-38 ॥

कर्तुकामा सुखवहे शकले सा तु राक्षसी संघट्टयाम आस तदा विधानबलचॊदिता ॥ २-१६-३९ ॥

'Desiring to act, that demoness then joined together The two pleasant pieces, impelled by the power of fate.' ॥ 2-16-39 ॥

kartukAmA sukhavahe zakale sA tu rAkSasI saMghaTTayAma Asa tadA vidhAnabalacòditA ॥ 2-16-39 ॥

ते समानीत मात्रे तु शकले पुरुषर्षभ एकमूर्ति कृते वीरः कुमारः समपद्यत ॥ २-१६-४० ॥

'Driven by fate's force, the female cannibal gathered the fragments for easier transport. And, O mighty among men, as soon as the fragments joined, they formed a robust child with a single body, infused with life.' ॥ 2-16-40 ॥
