[क] शृणु राजञ जरासंधॊ यद वीर्यॊ यत पराक्रमः यथा चॊपेक्षितॊ ऽसमाभिर बहुशः कृतविप्रियः ॥ २-१६-११ ॥
'Krishna said, "Listen, O monarch, to who Jarasandha is, his strength, his prowess, and why we have spared him despite his repeated offenses against us.' ॥ 2-16-11 ॥
english translation
[ka] zRNu rAjaJa jarAsaMdhò yada vIryò yata parAkramaH yathA còpekSitò 'samAbhira bahuzaH kRtavipriyaH ॥ 2-16-11 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअक्षौहिणीनां तिसृणाम आसीत समरदर्पितः राजा बृहद्रथॊ नाम मगधाधिपतिः पतिः ॥ २-१६-१२ ॥
'There was a mighty king named Vrihadratha, the ruler of Magadha. He was formidable in battle, commanding three Akshauhinis of troops.' ॥ 2-16-12 ॥

akSauhiNInAM tisRNAma AsIta samaradarpitaH rAjA bRhadrathò nAma magadhAdhipatiH patiH ॥ 2-16-12 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptरूपवान वीर्यसंपन्नः शरीमान अतुलविक्रमः नित्यं दीक्षा कृश तनुः शतक्रतुर इवापरः ॥ २-१६-१३ ॥
'He was handsome and filled with boundless energy, possessed immense wealth and unmatched prowess, always adorned with signs of consecration from sacrificial rites. He resembled a second Indra in strength.' ॥ 2-16-13 ॥

rUpavAna vIryasaMpannaH zarImAna atulavikramaH nityaM dIkSA kRza tanuH zatakratura ivAparaH ॥ 2-16-13 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेजसा सूर्यसदृशः कषमया पृथिवीसमः यमान्तकसमः कॊपे शरिया वैश्रवणॊपमः ॥ २-१६-१४ ॥
'Radiated glory akin to the Sun, exhibited forgiveness like the Earth, wrath akin to Yama the god of death, and possessed wealth like Kubera.' ॥ 2-16-14 ॥

tejasA sUryasadRzaH kaSamayA pRthivIsamaH yamAntakasamaH kòpe zariyA vaizravaNòpamaH ॥ 2-16-14 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्याभिजन संयुक्तैर गुणैर भरतसत्तम वयाप्तेयं पृथिवी सर्वा सूर्यस्येव गभस्तिभिः ॥ २-१६-१५ ॥
'O foremost of the Bharata lineage, his qualities, inherited from a long line of ancestors, spread across the entire earth like rays emanating from the sun.' ॥ 2-16-15 ॥

tasyAbhijana saMyuktaira guNaira bharatasattama vayApteyaM pRthivI sarvA sUryasyeva gabhastibhiH ॥ 2-16-15 ॥
