स काशिराजस्य सुते यमजे भरतर्षभ उपयेमे महावीर्यॊ रूपद्रविण संमते ॥ २-१६-१६ ॥
'And, O leader of the Bharata lineage, endowed with great strength, that monarch married both twin daughters of the king of Kashi, both adorned with the wealth of beauty.' ॥ 2-16-16 ॥
english translation
sa kAzirAjasya sute yamaje bharatarSabha upayeme mahAvIryò rUpadraviNa saMmate ॥ 2-16-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतयॊश चकार समयं मिथः स पुरुषर्षभः नातिवर्तिष्य इत्य एवं पत्नीभ्यां संनिधौ तदा ॥ २-१६-१७ ॥
'And that mighty hero among men secretly pledged to his wives that he would love them equally and never show favoritism.' ॥ 2-16-17 ॥
english translation
tayòza cakAra samayaM mithaH sa puruSarSabhaH nAtivartiSya itya evaM patnIbhyAM saMnidhau tadA ॥ 2-16-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस ताभ्यां शुशुभे राजा पत्नीभ्यां मनुजाधिप परियाभ्याम अनुरूपाभ्यां करेणुभ्याम इव दविपः ॥ २-१६-१८ ॥
'The sovereign of the earth, accompanied by his two beloved wives who both suited him well, lived joyfully, like a powerful elephant amidst two cow-elephants.' ॥ 2-16-18 ॥

sa tAbhyAM zuzubhe rAjA patnIbhyAM manujAdhipa pariyAbhyAma anurUpAbhyAM kareNubhyAma iva davipaH ॥ 2-16-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतयॊर मध्यगतश चापि रराज वसुधाधिपः गङ्गायमुनयॊर मध्ये मूर्तिमान इव सागरः ॥ २-१६-१९ ॥
'The lord of the earth, stationed between the two of them, shone brightly like a personified ocean between the Ganga and Yamuna.' ॥ 2-16-19 ॥

tayòra madhyagataza cApi rarAja vasudhAdhipaH gaGgAyamunayòra madhye mUrtimAna iva sAgaraH ॥ 2-16-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविषयेषु निमग्नस्य तस्य यौवनम अत्यगात न च वंशकरः पुत्रस तस्याजायत कश चन ॥ २-१६-२० ॥
'The monarch's youth, however, passed in the enjoyment of his wealth and possessions, yet no son was born to him to carry on his lineage.' ॥ 2-16-20 ॥

viSayeSu nimagnasya tasya yauvanama atyagAta na ca vaMzakaraH putrasa tasyAjAyata kaza cana ॥ 2-16-20 ॥
