'But in my opinion, O king, you will not be able to perform the Rajasuya sacrifice as long as the mighty Jarasandha lives.' ॥ 2-13-61 ॥

english translation

na tu zakyaM jarAsaMdhe jIvamAne mahAbale rAjasUyasa tavayA parAptuma eSA rAjana matira mama ॥ 2-13-61 ॥

तेन रुद्धा हि राजानः सर्वे जित्वा गिरिव्रजे कन्दरायां गिरीन्द्रस्य सिंहेनेव महाद्विपाः ॥ २-१३-६२ ॥

'He has imprisoned numerous monarchs in his hillfort, like a lion storing the bodies of mighty elephants in a cave.' ॥ 2-13-62 ॥

सॊ ऽपि राजा जरासंधॊ यियक्षुर वसुधाधिपैः आराध्य हि महादेवं निर्जितास तेन पार्थिवाः ॥ २-१३-६३ ॥

'O slayer of all foes, King Jarasandha, sought to offer a sacrifice of a hundred monarchs, revered for his intense ascetic penance to the illustrious lord of gods, the master of Uma.' ॥ 2-13-63 ॥

sò 'pi rAjA jarAsaMdhò yiyakSura vasudhAdhipaiH ArAdhya hi mahAdevaM nirjitAsa tena pArthivAH ॥ 2-13-63 ॥

स हि निर्जित्य निर्जित्य पार्थिवान पृतना गतान पुरम आनीय बद्ध्वा च चकार पुरुषव्रजम ॥ २-१३-६४ ॥

'In this way, Jarasandha has vanquished the kings of the earth. O noblest of monarchs, through this accomplishment, he has fulfilled the vow he made regarding his sacrifice.' ॥ 2-13-64 ॥

sa hi nirjitya nirjitya pArthivAna pRtanA gatAna purama AnIya baddhvA ca cakAra puruSavrajama ॥ 2-13-64 ॥

वयं चैव महाराज जरासंध भयात तदा मथुरां संपरित्यज्य गता दवारवतीं पुरीम ॥ २-१३-६५ ॥

'By defeating the kings and their armies, and bringing all of them as captives into this city, he greatly increased its population. O king, similarly, due to fear of Jarasandha, we too had to leave Mathura at one point and flee to the city of Dwaravati.' ॥ 2-13-65 ॥

vayaM caiva mahArAja jarAsaMdha bhayAta tadA mathurAM saMparityajya gatA davAravatIM purIma ॥ 2-13-65 ॥
