क्षयी रोगी कृमिशकृद्वायसास्यः प्रियकलत्रः परुषवाक्कदयों निर्घुणो गुरुजनपरित्यक्तः स्तेनो दम्भशीलो मूलकर्मणि प्रसक्तो मानापमानयोरनपेक्षी द्वेष्यरप्यर्थहाय विलग्ज इत्यगम्याः ॥ १६ ॥
With tuberculosis, sick, with worms in their excrement, with bad breath, in love with their wife, coarse in word, brutal, cruel, abandoned by their parents, a thief, idiot, practicing magic, insensitive to praise and insult, frequenting enemies for hope of gain, immodest: such men should be avoided.

अगम्य नायक – जो क्षयरोगी, कोड़ी, कृमिरोगी हो, जिसके मुख से दुर्गन्ध आती हो, जिसे अपनी पत्नी प्रिय हो, जो कटुभाषी हो, दुराचारी हो, निर्दयी हो, माता पिता द्वारा बहिष्कृत हो, जो चोर, कपटी, जादू टोने वाला, मानापमान की चिन्ता न करने वाला, लोभवश शत्रुओं से भी मिल जाने वाला और निर्लज्ज हो ऐसे पुरुष के साथ वेश्या को समागम नहीं करना चाहिये ॥ १६ ॥

रागो भयमर्थः सङ्घय वैरनिर्यातनं जिज्ञासा पक्षः खेदो धर्मो यशोऽनुकम्पा सुहृद्वाक्यं ह्रीः प्रियसादृश्यं धन्यता रागापनयः साजात्यं साहवेश्यं सातत्यमायतिश्च गमनकारणानि भवन्तीत्याचार्याः ॥ १७ ॥
The masters of old considered as reasons for having sexual relations passion; fear; money; defiance; easy opportunity; desire to learn; protection; grief; virtue; fame; pity; loving words; shyness; resemblance to the beloved; the facts of being well endowed, handsome, and rich; excitation; congeniality; being of the same circle; cohabitation: such are the reasons for which sexual relations take place.

मिलन के कारण अनुराग, भय, धन, सङ्घर्ष, गैर निकालना, जानने की इच्छा, पक्षपात, खेद (परिश्रम), धर्म, यश, अनुकम्पा, प्रियवाक्य, लज्जा, प्रियतम से समानता, दीनता, राग की शान्ति, सजातीयता, साथ रहना और प्रभावये वेश्या के गमन के कारण है, ऐसा कामशास्त्र के आचार्यों का मत है ॥ १७ ॥
