कार्यान्तराभावादेतासामपि पूर्वास्वेवोपलक्षणम्, तस्माच्चतस्त्र एव नायिका इति वात्स्यायनः ॥ २६ ॥
According to Vatsyayana, since they do not play a different role, these different kinds of mistress belong to the previous four categories.

क्योंकि विधवा, परिव्राजिका, वेश्यापुत्री और कुलीन युक्ती- इनका भिन्न कार्य नहीं है, इसलिये इनका कन्या, पुनर्भू, येश्या और परकीया इन चारों में अन्तर्भाव हो जाता है, इसलिये नायिका चार ही हैं ऐसा वात्स्यायन का मत है ॥ २६ ॥

Types of lover: The first type of lover, 'whose role is known by all, is in some way official. Another sort of lover is one whose relationship remains secret. According to the importance or the deficiencies of their aptitudes and defects, lovers are considered as being superior, average, or inferior.

नायक विचार — प्रथम नायक तो पति ही हैं जो सर्वत्र प्रसिद्ध है। उपपति दूसरा नायक है, जो विशेष प्रयोजन के लिये प्रच्छन्न सम्बन्ध रखता है। ये गुण-दोषों के न्यूनाधिक्य के कारण उत्तम, मध्यम और अधम कहलाते हैं नायक और नायिका, दोनों के गुणदोषों को वैशिक अधिकरण में कहेंगे ॥ २८ ॥

Thirteen kinds of women should be avoided: Lepers, madwomen, women thrown out of their caste, those who are incapable of keeping a secret, unchaste women, those who are too old, those whose skin is too white or too black, and those who smell bad, as well as kinswomen, those with whom one has friendship, those who have taken monastic vows, as well as the women of one's family, the wives of one's friends, of Brahmans, and of persons belonging to the royal family.

अगम्य स्त्रियाँ कन्यादि का निरूपण करते समय उनकी प्राह्मता, अग्राह्यता पर विचार नहीं किया था, इसलिये यहाँ अगम्या (सहवास के अयोग्य) स्त्रियों का उल्लेख कर गयाओं को स्पष्ट करते हैं- कोढ़िन, उन्मत्ता (पागल), पतिता (जाति, धर्म या समाज से बहिष्कृत), रहस्यों को प्रकटित कर देने वाली, लग्नाविहोना, गतयौवना (व्यतीत यौवन वाली), अतिश्वेता (अधिक गोरी), अतिकृष्णा (अधिक काली), दुर्गन्धा (बुरी गन्धवाली), सम्बन्धिनी, सखी (अपनी या पत्नी की सहेली), परिव्राजिका (संन्यासिनी) और सम्बन्धियों, मित्रों, ब्राह्मणों (विद्वानों) और राजपरिवार की स्त्रियाँ ये तेरह प्रकार की स्त्रियों गम्य (सहवास के योग्य) नहीं हैं ॥ २९ ॥

According to the Babhravyas, when it is certain that a 'woman has had relations with five men, there are no longer any prohibitions.
