बालां वा परिचारिकामदोषज्ञामदुष्टेनोपायेन प्रहिणुयात् । तत्र स्त्रजि कर्णपत्त्रे वा गूढलेखनिधानं नखदशनपदं वा सा मूकदूती । तस्यास्तयैव प्रत्युत्तरप्रार्थनम् ॥ ६१ ॥
In order to send garlands of flowers, earrings wrapped in a secret message, marked with the print of his nails and teeth, he employs a very young maidservant, who sees nothing wrong in these dishonest enterprises. She is the mute messenger [mukaduti] through whose intervention he seeks to obtain an answer.

मूकदूती भले-बुरे का ज्ञान न रखने वाली अवयस्क परिचारिका को उस नायिका के घर खेलने भेजे। उसके साथ नायिका का अच्छा परिचय हो जाने पर माला या कर्णपत्र में गूढ़ प्रेमपत्र रखकर नखक्षत एवं दन्तक्षत बनाये इस प्रकार कार्य करने वाली मूकदूती होती है। इसका प्रत्युत्तर उस नायिका से ही माँगे ॥ ६१ ॥

पूर्वप्रस्तुतार्थलिङ्गसम्बद्धमन्यजनाग्रहणीयं लौकिकार्थं द्वयर्थ वा वचनमुदासीना या श्रावयेत् सा वातदूती तस्या अपि तथैव प्रत्युत्तरप्रार्थनमिति तासां विशेषः ॥ ६२ ॥
He utilizes a vataduti [a messenger as elusive as the wind]. She transmits the messages in an established, agreed-upon language, which they have prepared in advance and which cannot be understood by others, or else by using words with double meanings, or foreign words. She is known as the messenger as elusive as the wind. In the same way, she transmits the reply: that is her role.

वातदूती – नायक-नायिका के पूर्ववर्ती वृत्तान्त के बोधक, लौकिक या पर्थक वचनों को, जिन्हें अन्य न समझ सकें, जो उदासीन होकर सुनाये और उससे उसी भाषा में उत्तर भी ले से, उसे बातदूती कहते हैं ॥ ६२ ॥

भवन्ति चात्र श्लोकाः- विधवेक्षणिका दासी भिक्षुकी शिल्पकारिका । प्रविशत्याशु विश्वासं दूतीकार्य च बिन्दति ॥ ६३ ॥
On this subject, here is a verse: "Widows, fortunetellers, slaves, beggars, worker women who frequent the house and whom one trusts, can easily carry out the messenger's task."

इस विषय में आनुवंश्य श्लोक उद्धृत करते हैं- विधवा, शकुन बताने वाली, दासी, भिक्षुणी, महावर लगाने एवं बाल संवारने वाली नाइन- ये शीघ्र ही प्रविष्ट होकर विश्वासपात्र बन जाती हैं और फिर दूती का काम करने लगती है ॥ ६३ ॥

संक्षेपेण दूतीकर्माण्याह- विद्वेषं ग्राहयेत् पत्यौ रमणीयानि वर्णयेत्। चित्रान् सुरतसम्भोगानन्यासामपि दर्शयेत् ॥ ६४ ॥
The messenger's role is briefly described: She creates hostility toward the husband, she praises the woman's charms, and shows her and the other women obscene paintings.

दूतीकर्म सारसंक्षेप – दूतियाँ पतियों से विद्वेष करा दें, जिस नायक से उसे मिलाना चाहें, उसके रूप आदि की प्रशंसा करें अन्य स्त्रियों के समक्ष भी सुरत और सम्भोगों के अश्लील चित्र दिखायें ॥ ६४ ॥

नायकस्यानुरागं च पुनश्च रतिकौशलम् । प्रार्थनां चाधिकस्त्रीभिरवष्टम्भं च वर्णयेत् ॥ ६५ ॥
She describes the hero's passion, his skill in sexual practices. She exaggerates his successes with women and his wealth.

नायक के अनुराग और रतिकौशल का वर्णन करे। नायिका से भी अधिक रूपवती, धनवती और शीलवती स्त्रियों की प्रार्थना को बताये कि ये स्त्रियाँ भी उस पर अनुरक्त हैं। साथ ही, नायक के दृढ़ निश्चय को भी प्रकटित करे ॥ ६५ ॥
