अथ पञ्चीकरणम्' - शब्दाद् व्योम स्पर्शतत्वेन' वायुस्ताभ्यां रूपाद वह्निरेतैरसाच्च I अम्भांस्येभिर्गन्धतो भूधराद्या भूताः पञ्च स्युर्गुणानुक्रमेण ॥४-४२॥
From sabda emanated akasha (space), from sparsha (touch) emanated vayu, from these two and rupa (form) emanated vahni (fire), from these and rasa (taste) emanated ambhas (water) and from these and gandha (smell) emanated bhu (earth). Thus the five bhutas evolved from these gunas in their order.

शब्द से आकाश (अंतरिक्ष), स्पर्श (स्पर्श) से वायु, इन दोनों से रूप (रूप) से वह्नि (अग्नि), इनसे और रस (स्वाद) से अम्बस (जल) और इनसे और गंध (गंध) उत्पन्न होती है। उत्पन्न भु (पृथ्वी)। इस प्रकार पाँच भूत अपने क्रमानुसार इन गुणों से विकसित हुए।
