अथ मयूरम्- धरामवष्टभ्य करद्वयेन तत्कूर्पर स्थापितनाभिपार्श्वः I उच्चासनो दण्डवदुत्थितः खे मयूरमेतत्प्रवदन्ति पीठम्
The two palms are placed on the ground. Elbows are placed on the respective sides of the navel and the body is lifted in the air like a horizontal stick. This is known as Mayura-pitha.

हरति सकलरोगनाशु गुल्मोदरादीन् I अभिभवति च दोषानासनं श्रीमयूरम् I बहुकदशनभुक्तं भस्मकुर्याद्विचित्रम् I जनयति जठराग्निं जीर्यते कालकूटम् ॥ ३-४३ ॥
Mayurasana enables quick relief from all the diseases of the spleen and the stomach and cures the imbalances caused by the humours. It further digests excess food and bad food, stimulates gastric fire and even digests the deadly poison.

मयूरासन प्लीहा और पेट के सभी रोगों से तुरंत राहत दिलाता है और हास्य के कारण होने वाले असंतुलन को ठीक करता है। यह अतिरिक्त भोजन और खराब भोजन को पचाता है, जठराग्नि को उत्तेजित करता है और घातक जहर को भी पचाता है।

When mayura is practised like a (horizontal) stick, it is called daṇḍa-mayura. This same when practised on both the sides, is parshva-mayura.

जब मयूर का अभ्यास (क्षैतिज) छड़ी की तरह किया जाता है, तो इसे दंड-मयुरा कहा जाता है। यही जब दोनों तरफ अभ्यास किया जाता है, तो पार्श्व-मयूर होता है।
