दिग्देशचेष्टास्वरवासरऋक्षमुहूर्तहोराकरणौदयांशान् । चरस्थिर उन्मिश्रबलाबलं च बुद्ध्वा फलानि प्रवदेद्रुतज्णः ॥ ९६-०१ ॥
A person learned in the science of omens (śākuna) shall make predictions taking into account the dik (direction), place, motion, sound, week day, the Nakṣatra, the Muhūrta, the rising sign, the karaṇa (half a lunar day), the rising Navāṃśa and the fixed, moveable and the double nature of signs and their strength or weakness.

digdezaceSTAsvaravAsaraRkSamuhUrtahorAkaraNaudayAMzAn । carasthira unmizrabalAbalaM ca buddhvA phalAni pravadedrutajNaH ॥ 96-01 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptद्विविधं कथयन्ति संस्थितानाम् आगामिस्थिरसंज्ञितं च कार्यम् । नृपदूतचरान्यदेशजातान्य् अभिघातः स्वजनादि चऽगमऽख्यम् ॥ ९६-०२ ॥
In the case of persons who do not proceed on a journey, omens are divided into two sorts—the stable and the unstable. Omens pointing to the king, the messenger, the spy and foreign lands as well as those connected with troubles and kinsmen are known as unstable.

dvividhaM kathayanti saMsthitAnAm AgAmisthirasaMjJitaM ca kAryam । nRpadUtacarAnyadezajAtAny abhighAtaH svajanAdi ca'gama'khyam ॥ 96-02 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउद्बद्धसंग्रहणभोजनचौरवह्नि वर्षौत्सवऽत्मजवधाः कलहो भयं च । वर्गः स्थिरो अयं उदयैन्दुयुते स्थिरऋक्षे विद्यात्स्थिरं चरगृहे च चरं यदुक्तम् ॥ ९६-०३ ॥
Omens (śākuna) pointing to death by hanging, abduction of a woman, meals, thieves, fire, rain, festivals, sons, torture, quarrels and fears are known as stable omens if the sign occupied by the Moon at the time be a fixed one and they are known as unstable omens if the sign occupied by the Moon at the time of their occurrence be a moveable one.

udbaddhasaMgrahaNabhojanacauravahni varSautsava'tmajavadhAH kalaho bhayaM ca । vargaH sthiro ayaM udayainduyute sthiraRkSe vidyAtsthiraM caragRhe ca caraM yaduktam ॥ 96-03 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्थिरप्रदेशौपलमन्दिरेषु सुरालये भूजलसन्निधौ च । स्थिराणि कार्याणि चराणि यानि चलप्रदेशऽदिषु चऽगमाय ॥ ९६-०४ ॥
Omens occurring in hard and firm places, in stone houses, in temples, in land and in waters are known as stable; and omens occurring on weak or moving objects are known as unstable—the latter omens point to gain.

sthirapradezaupalamandireSu surAlaye bhUjalasannidhau ca । sthirANi kAryANi carANi yAni calapradeza'diSu ca'gamAya ॥ 96-04 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआप्यौदयऋक्षक्षणदिग्जलेषु पक्षावसानेषु च ये प्रदीप्ताः । सर्वे अपि ते वृष्टिकरा रुवन्तः शान्तो अपि वृष्टिं कुरुते अम्बुचारी ॥ ९६-०५ ॥
Omens occuring when the rising sign, the Nakṣatra, the Muhūrta and the Dik are watery ones and those occurring in water and on new and full Moon periods and which are at the same time dīpta (malefic) and attended with sound, point to gain; also if the creatures of water be Śānta (benefic), there will be rain.

ApyaudayaRkSakSaNadigjaleSu pakSAvasAneSu ca ye pradIptAH । sarve api te vRSTikarA ruvantaH zAnto api vRSTiM kurute ambucArI ॥ 96-05 ॥
