वामं जिघ्रेज्जानु वित्तऽगमाय स्त्रीभिः साकं विग्रहो दक्षिणं चेत् । ऊरुं वामं चैन्द्रियार्थौपभोगः सव्यं जिघ्रेदिष्टमित्रैर्विरोधः ॥ ८९-११ ॥
If the dog be seen to kiss or smell the left knee, there will be gain of wealth; if it be seen to kiss the right knee, there will be quarrel with women; if it be seen to kiss the left thigh, there will be sensual enjoyment and if it be seen to kiss the right thigh, there will be enmity between friends.
english translation
vAmaM jighrejjAnu vitta'gamAya strIbhiH sAkaM vigraho dakSiNaM cet । UruM vAmaM caindriyArthaupabhogaH savyaM jighrediSTamitrairvirodhaH ॥ 89-11 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपादौ जिघ्रेद्यायिनश्चेदयात्रां प्राहार्थऽप्तिं वाञ्छितां निश्चलस्य । स्थानस्थस्यौपानहौ चेद्विजिघ्रेत् क्षिप्रं यात्रां सारमेयः करोति ॥ ८९-१२ ॥
If the dog be seen to kiss the feet, the traveller will be stopped in his journey; but a person who does not travel will gain the object of his desire. If the dog (śvan) be seen to kiss the shoes of a person, that person will soon begin to travel.
english translation
pAdau jighredyAyinazcedayAtrAM prAhArtha'ptiM vAJchitAM nizcalasya । sthAnasthasyaupAnahau cedvijighret kSipraM yAtrAM sArameyaH karoti ॥ 89-12 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउभयोरपि जिघ्रणे हि बाह्वोर् विज्ञेयो रिपुचौरसम्प्रयोगः । अथ भस्मनि गोपयीत भक्षान् मांसास्थीनि च शीघ्रं अग्निकोपः ॥ ८९-१३ ॥
If the dog be seen to kiss both the arms, there will be suffering from enemies and robbers and if it be seen to conceal in a heap of rubbish, flesh, bones, or any eatables, there will be immediate fear from destructive fires.
english translation
ubhayorapi jighraNe hi bAhvor vijJeyo ripucaurasamprayogaH । atha bhasmani gopayIta bhakSAn mAMsAsthIni ca zIghraM agnikopaH ॥ 89-13 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptग्रामे भषित्वा च बहिः श्मशाने भषन्ति चेदुत्तमपुंविनाशः । यियासतश्चाभिमुखो विरौति यदा तदा श्वा निरुणद्धि यात्राम् ॥ ८९-१४ ॥
If the dog be seen to bark first in the village and then in the village cremation ground, the chief person of the village will die and if it be seen to bark towards a traveller, it stops his journey.
english translation
grAme bhaSitvA ca bahiH zmazAne bhaSanti ceduttamapuMvinAzaH । yiyAsatazcAbhimukho virauti yadA tadA zvA niruNaddhi yAtrAm ॥ 89-14 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउकार वर्णे विरुते अर्थसिद्धिर् ओकारवर्णेन च वामपार्श्वे । व्याक्षेपं औकाररुतेन विन्द्यान् निषेधकृत्सर्वरुतैश्च पश्चात् ॥ ८९-१५ ॥
If the dog be seen to howl with the sound of the letter U on the left side there will be gain of wealth; if with the sound of the long vowel O on the left side, there will also be gain of wealth; if with the sound of the letter AU on the left side, there will be ridicule; and if it be seen to howl in any sound from behind, the traveller will meet with obstacles.

ukAra varNe virute arthasiddhir okAravarNena ca vAmapArzve । vyAkSepaM aukArarutena vindyAn niSedhakRtsarvarutaizca pazcAt ॥ 89-15 ॥
