स्रोतस् तडागभेद्य एकपुत्रकः कलहकारिका च रला । भृङ्गारवच्च विरुवति निशि भूमौ द्व्यङ्गुलशरीरा ॥ ८८-०६ ॥
Srotabherī, Taḍākabherī and Ekaputraka are birds of the same class. The Kalahakārikā, and the Ralā are also birds of the same class. The Ralā is a bird two digits high and sounds like a Bhṛṅgāra (a golden pitcher?) at night.

srotas taDAgabhedya ekaputrakaH kalahakArikA ca ralA । bhRGgAravacca viruvati nizi bhUmau dvyaGgulazarIrA ॥ 88-06 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदुर्बलिको भाण्डीकः प्राच्यानां दक्षिणः प्रशस्तो असौ । धिक्कारो मृगजातिः कृकवाकुः कुक्कुटः प्रोक्तः ॥ ८८-०७ ॥
The Durbalaka and the Bhāṇḍīka are birds of one species. If these birds be found to pass on the right side, they indicate good luck to the people of the eastern countries. Cikkāra is a species of animal and Kṛkavāku and Kukkuṭa are fowls of the same species.

durbaliko bhANDIkaH prAcyAnAM dakSiNaH prazasto asau । dhikkAro mRgajAtiH kRkavAkuH kukkuTaH proktaH ॥ 88-07 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगर्ताकुक्कुटकस्य प्रथितं तु कुलालकुक्कुटो नाम । गृहगोधिकाइति संज्ञा विज्ञेया कुड्यमत्स्यस्य ॥ ८८-०८ ॥
Gartākukkuṭa is also known as Kulālakukkuṭa and Kuḍyamatsya (the wall-fish) and Gṛhagodhika are different names for the house lizard.

gartAkukkuTakasya prathitaM tu kulAlakukkuTo nAma । gRhagodhikAiti saMjJA vijJeyA kuDyamatsyasya ॥ 88-08 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदिव्यो धन्वन उक्तः क्रोडः स्यात्सूकरो अथ गौरुस्रा । श्वा सारमेय उक्तो जात्या चटिका च सूकरिका ॥ ८८-०९ ॥
Divya and Dhanvana are animals of the same species; Kroḍa and Sūkara are different names for the hog; Go and Usra are different names for the cow and Śvā and Sārameya are dogs of the same species.

divyo dhanvana uktaH kroDaH syAtsUkaro atha gaurusrA । zvA sArameya ukto jAtyA caTikA ca sUkarikA ॥ 88-09 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं देशे देशे तद्विद्भ्यः समुपलभ्य नामानि ॥ शकुनरुतज्ञानार्थं शास्त्रे सञ्चित्य योज्यानि ॥ ८८-१० ॥
Thus, birds and animals bear different names in different countries. The animals shall first be identified from their names and their cries shall then be interpreted as stated below.
