श्यामाश्येनशशघ्नवञ्जुलशिखिश्रीकर्णचक्राह्वयाश् चाषाण्डीरकखञ्जरीटकशुकध्वाङ्क्षाः कपोतास्त्रयः । भारद्वाजकुलालकुक्कुटखरा हारीतगृध्रौ कपिः फेण्टः कुक्कुटपूर्णकूट चटकाः प्रोक्ता दिवासञ्चराः ॥ ८८-०१ ॥
The Kokila or the Indian Cuckoo, the hog, the Śaśaghna, the Vañjula, the peacock, the Śrīkarṇa, the Brāhmaṇi duck, the blue-jay, the Aṇḍīraka, the wag-tail, the parrot, the crow, the dove, the sky-lark, the wild-cock, the osprey, the Harīta pigeon the vulture, the monkey, the Pheṇṭa, the cock, the Pūrṇakūṭa and the sparrow are day birds and animals.

zyAmAzyenazazaghnavaJjulazikhizrIkarNacakrAhvayAz cASANDIrakakhaJjarITakazukadhvAGkSAH kapotAstrayaH । bhAradvAjakulAlakukkuTakharA hArItagRdhrau kapiH pheNTaH kukkuTapUrNakUTa caTakAH proktA divAsaJcarAH ॥ 88-01 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptलोमाशिका पिङ्गलच्छिप्पिकाआख्यौ वल्गुलीउलूकौ शशकश्च रात्रौ । सर्वे स्वकालौत्क्रमचारिणः स्युर् देशस्य नाशाय नृपान्तदा वा ॥ ८८-०२ ॥
The jackal, the Piṅgala, the Chippikā, the flying fox, the owl and the hare are night birds and animals. If the day birds be found to move at night or if the night birds be found to move by day, either the country will suffer or the king will meet with ruin.
english translation
lomAzikA piGgalacchippikAAkhyau valgulIulUkau zazakazca rAtrau । sarve svakAlautkramacAriNaH syur dezasya nAzAya nRpAntadA vA ॥ 88-02 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहयनरभुजगौष्ट्रद्वीपिसिंहऋक्षगोधा वृकनकुलकुरङ्गश्वाजगोव्याघ्रहंसाः । पृषतमृगशृगालश्वाविदाख्यान्यपुष्टा द्युनिशं अपि बिडालः सारसः सूकरश्च ॥ ८८-०३ ॥
Horses, men, serpents, camels, leopards, lions, bears, iguanas, wolves, the mongoose, the deer, the dog, the goat, the cow, the tiger, the swan, the spotted antelope, the stag, the jackal, the hedge-hog, the cuckoo, the cat, the Indian crane and the pigeon are both day and night animals.

hayanarabhujagauSTradvIpisiMhaRkSagodhA vRkanakulakuraGgazvAjagovyAghrahaMsAH । pRSatamRgazRgAlazvAvidAkhyAnyapuSTA dyunizaM api biDAlaH sArasaH sUkarazca ॥ 88-03 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभषकूटपूरि कुरबककरायिकाः पूर्णकूटसण्ज्ञाः स्युः । नामान्युलूकचेट्याः पिङ्गलिका पेचिका हक्का ॥ ८८-०४ ॥
The Bhaṣa, the Kūṭapura, the Kurabaka and the Karāyikā are birds of the species known as Pūrṇakūṭa. The Piṅgalikā, the Pecikā and the Hakkā are owls of the species known as Ulūkaceṭi.

bhaSakUTapUri kurabakakarAyikAH pUrNakUTasaNjJAH syuH । nAmAnyulUkaceTyAH piGgalikA pecikA hakkA ॥ 88-04 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकपोतकी च श्यामा वञ्जुलकः कीर्त्यते खदिरचञ्चुः । छुच्छुन्दरी नृपसुता वालेयो गर्दभः प्रोक्तः ॥ ८८-०५ ॥
The Kapotakī and the Śyāmā are doves of the same class. The Vañjulaka and the Khadiracañcu are fowls of the same class. The Chuchundarī and the Nṛpasutā are rats of the same class. The Vāleya and the Gardabha are asses of the same class.

kapotakI ca zyAmA vaJjulakaH kIrtyate khadiracaJcuH । chucchundarI nRpasutA vAleyo gardabhaH proktaH ॥ 88-05 ॥
