वञ्जुलकरुतं तित्तिडिति दीप्तं अथ किल्किलिइति तत्पूर्णम् । श्येनशुकगृध्रकङ्काः प्रकृतेरन्यस्वरा दीप्ताः ॥ ८८-११ ॥
If the Vañjula bird be heard to sound as Tittiḍ, such sound is inauspicious; but if it be heard to sound as Kilkilī the sound is auspicious. The other than natural sounds of the hawk, the parrot, the vulture and the crow are inauspicious.
english translation
vaJjulakarutaM tittiDiti dIptaM atha kilkiliiti tatpUrNam । zyenazukagRdhrakaGkAH prakRteranyasvarA dIptAH ॥ 88-11 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयानऽसनशय्यानिलयनं कपोतस्य सद्मविशनं वा । अशुभप्रदं नराणां जातिविभेदेन कालो अन्यः ॥ ८८-१२ ॥
If the dove be seen to conceal itself in a carriage or a seat or a bed or enter a lotus flower, it indicates evil. The effects are felt after different periods in the case of different species of this bird.
english translation
yAna'sanazayyAnilayanaM kapotasya sadmavizanaM vA । azubhapradaM narANAM jAtivibhedena kAlo anyaH ॥ 88-12 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआपाण्डुरस्य वर्षाच्चित्रकपोतस्य चएव षण्मासात् । कुङ्कुमधूम्रस्य फलं सद्यः पाकं कपोतस्य ॥ ८८-१३ ॥
If the dove be wholly white, the effects will be felt after a year; if it be of various colours, the effects will be felt after six months and if of crimson colour with a slight admixture of black, the effects will be felt that same day.
english translation
ApANDurasya varSAccitrakapotasya caeva SaNmAsAt । kuGkumadhUmrasya phalaM sadyaH pAkaM kapotasya ॥ 88-13 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptचिचिदिति शब्दः पूर्णः श्यामायाः शूलिशूलिति च धन्यः । चच्चैति दीप्तः स्यात्स्वप्रियलाभाय चिक्चिगिति ॥ ८८-१४ ॥
If the cuckoo be heard to sound as cicid, it indicates good luck; if as śūliśūli, there will be gain of wealth; if as cacca, it indicates evil and if as cikcik there will be gain of a desired object.
english translation
ciciditi zabdaH pUrNaH zyAmAyAH zUlizUliti ca dhanyaH । caccaiti dIptaH syAtsvapriyalAbhAya cikcigiti ॥ 88-14 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहारीतस्य तु शब्दो गुग्गुः पूर्णो अपरे प्रदीप्ताः स्युः । स्वरवैचित्र्यं सर्वं भारद्वाज्याः शुभं प्रोक्तम् ॥ ८८-१५ ॥
If the Harīta pigeon be heard to sound as guggu there will be prosperity; if in any other way, it indicates evil. The sound of the sky-lark always indicates prosperity.
english translation
hArItasya tu zabdo gugguH pUrNo apare pradIptAH syuH । svaravaicitryaM sarvaM bhAradvAjyAH zubhaM proktam ॥ 88-15 ॥
