किलिकिल्किलि तित्तिरस्वनः शान्तः शस्तफलो अन्यथाअपरः । शशको निशि वामपार्श्वगो वाशन्शस्तफलो निगद्यते ॥ ८८-२१ ॥

If the francoline partridge be heard to sound kili kilkili there will be prosperity and not otherwise; if at night the hare be seen to go crying on the left side, there will be good luck.

english translation

kilikilkili tittirasvanaH zAntaH zastaphalo anyathAaparaH । zazako nizi vAmapArzvago vAzanzastaphalo nigadyate ॥ 88-21 ॥

किलिकिलिविरुतं कपेः प्रदीप्तं न शुभफलप्रदं उद्दिशन्ति यातुः । शुभं अपि कथयन्ति चुग्लुशब्दं कपिसदृशं च कुलालकुक्कुटस्य ॥ ८८-२२ ॥

If the monkey be heard to cry as kilikili the traveller will not meet with success. According to some, if the wild cock be heard to cry as cuglu or like a monkey, the traveller will meet with success.

kilikilivirutaM kapeH pradIptaM na zubhaphalapradaM uddizanti yAtuH । zubhaM api kathayanti cugluzabdaM kapisadRzaM ca kulAlakukkuTasya ॥ 88-22 ॥

पूर्णाननः कृमिपतङ्गपिपीलकाआद्यैश् चाषः प्रदक्षिणं उपैति नरस्य यस्य । खे स्वस्तिकं यदि करोत्यथ वा यियासोस् तस्यार्थलाभं अचिरात्सुमहत्करोति ॥ ८८-२३ ॥

If the blue-jay be seen to move to the right of a person with worms, insects or bone in its mouth or makes the Svastika figure in the sky by its flight, the traveller will soon gain wealth.

english translation

pUrNAnanaH kRmipataGgapipIlakAAdyaiz cASaH pradakSiNaM upaiti narasya yasya । khe svastikaM yadi karotyatha vA yiyAsos tasyArthalAbhaM acirAtsumahatkaroti ॥ 88-23 ॥

चाषस्य काकेन विरुध्यतश्चेत् पराजयो दक्षिणभागगस्य । वधः प्रयातस्य तदा नरस्य विपर्यये तस्य जयः प्रदिष्टः ॥ ८८-२४ ॥

If the crow and the blue-jay be seen to pass to the right fighting, the jay suffering defeat, the traveller will be killed and if the reverse be the case, there will be success.

english translation

cASasya kAkena virudhyatazcet parAjayo dakSiNabhAgagasya । vadhaH prayAtasya tadA narasya viparyaye tasya jayaH pradiSTaH ॥ 88-24 ॥

केकैति पूर्णकुटवद्यदि वामपार्श्वे चाषः करोति विरुतं जयकृत्तदा स्यात् । क्रेक्रैति तस्य विरुतं न शिवाय दीप्तं सन्दर्शनं शुभदं अस्य सदैव यातुः ॥ ८८-२५ ॥

If the blue-jay be heard to sound as keka like the Pūrṇakūṭa on the left side, there will be success; but if krekra be the cry, it indicates evil. However, the appearance of the blue-jay always indicates success to the traveller.

kekaiti pUrNakuTavadyadi vAmapArzve cASaH karoti virutaM jayakRttadA syAt । krekraiti tasya virutaM na zivAya dIptaM sandarzanaM zubhadaM asya sadaiva yAtuH ॥ 88-25 ॥
