नीपे अर्थाप्तिः करवीरे अन्नलब्धिर् भाण्डीरे स्याद् अन्नं एवं प्रभूतम् । शम्यां शत्रूनपहन्त्यर्जुने च श्यामायां च द्विषतां एव नाशः ॥ ८५-०६ ॥

The twig of the Nīpa if chewed as a tooth-brush will bring wealth to a person; that of the Karavīra will bring him good meals; that of the Bhānḍīra will bring him much food; that of the Śamī, Aṛjuna and Śyāmā will destroy his enemies.

english translation

nIpe arthAptiH karavIre annalabdhir bhANDIre syAd annaM evaM prabhUtam । zamyAM zatrUnapahantyarjune ca zyAmAyAM ca dviSatAM eva nAzaH ॥ 85-06 ॥

शाले अश्वकर्णे च वदन्ति गौरवं सभद्रदारावपि चाटरूषके । वाल्लभ्यं आयाति जनस्य सर्वतः प्रियङ्गुअपामार्गसजम्बुदाडिमैः ॥ ८५-०७ ॥

The twig of Aśvakarṇa, Bhadrataru and Cāṭarūṣaka if chewed as a tooth-brush will bring a man dignity; those of Priyaṅgu, Apāmārga, Jambū and Dāḍimā will make a person beloved of all people.

english translation

zAle azvakarNe ca vadanti gauravaM sabhadradArAvapi cATarUSake । vAllabhyaM AyAti janasya sarvataH priyaGguapAmArgasajambudADimaiH ॥ 85-07 ॥

उदङ्मुखः प्राङ्मुख एव वाअब्दं कामं यथेष्ठं हृदये निवेश्य । अद्यादनिन्दन् च सुखौपविष्टः प्रक्षाल्य जह्याच्च शुचिप्रदेशे ॥ ८४-०८ ॥

Facing the north or the east, a person shall chew the toothbrush and cleanse his teeth, for a year, firmly placing before his mind his object of desire. He shall, after its use, wash the toothbrush with water and throw it in a pure spot.

english translation

udaGmukhaH prAGmukha eva vAabdaM kAmaM yatheSThaM hRdaye nivezya । adyAdanindan ca sukhaupaviSTaH prakSAlya jahyAcca zucipradeze ॥ 84-08 ॥

अभिमुखपतितं प्रशान्तदिक्स्थं शुभं अतिशोभनं ऊर्ध्वसंस्थितं यत् । अशुभकरं अतो अन्यथा प्रदिष्टं स्थितपतितं च करोति मृष्टं अन्नम् ॥ ८५-०९ ॥

If the tooth-brush (dantakāṣṭha) when thrown away after its use be seen to stick to the ground with one end while the other end points to him and in a Śānta (benefic) quarter (vide stanza 12, next chapter) prosperity is indicated; if it should stick for a time and then fall, the person will get good meals and if it fall otherwise the person will suffer miseries.

abhimukhapatitaM prazAntadiksthaM zubhaM atizobhanaM UrdhvasaMsthitaM yat । azubhakaraM ato anyathA pradiSTaM sthitapatitaM ca karoti mRSTaM annam ॥ 85-09 ॥
