रक्तं पीतं च शुभं राजन्यानां सितं द्विजातीनाम् । शैरीषं वैश्यानां शूद्राणां शस्यते असिनिभम् ॥ ८०-११ ॥

The Kṣatriyas shall wear red or yellow diamonds; the Brāhmaṇas shall wear white diamonds; the Vaiśyas shall wear diamonds which are slighty yellow and the Śūdras shall wear those which are black.

english translation

raktaM pItaM ca zubhaM rAjanyAnAM sitaM dvijAtInAm । zairISaM vaizyAnAM zUdrANAM zasyate asinibham ॥ 80-11 ॥

सितसर्षपाष्टकं तण्डुलो भवेत्तण्डुलैस्तु विंशत्या । तुलितस्य द्वे लक्षे मूल्यं द्विद्व्यूनिते चैतत् ॥ ८०-१२ ॥

Eight grams of white mustard seeds should be prepared, and twenty grams of rice should be prepared. The value of a balanced coin is 2 lakhs and this is less than two lakhs.

sitasarSapASTakaM taNDulo bhavettaNDulaistu viMzatyA । tulitasya dve lakSe mUlyaM dvidvyUnite caitat ॥ 80-12 ॥

पादत्र्यंशार्धऊनं त्रिभागपञ्चांशषोडशांशाश्च । भागश्च पञ्चविंशः शतिकस्साहस्रिकश्चैति ॥ ८०-१३ ॥

Three feet and a half of wool, three parts, five and sixteen parts. The twenty-fifth part is one hundred and one thousand.

सर्वद्रव्यऽभेद्यं लघ्वम्भसि तरति रश्मिवत्स्निघ्दम् । तडिदनलशक्रचापौपमं च वज्रं हितायौक्तम् ॥ ८०-१४ ॥

A superior diamond is one which cannot be broken with any other substance, which is light and dazzling, which is of the colour of lightning, fire or rainbow and which floats in water. It always brings prosperity.

sarvadravya'bhedyaM laghvambhasi tarati razmivatsnighdam । taDidanalazakracApaupamaM ca vajraM hitAyauktam ॥ 80-14 ॥

काकपदमक्षिकाकेशधातुयुक्तानि शर्करैर् विद्धम् । द्विगुणाश्रि दग्ध कलुषत्रस्तविशीर्णानि न शुभानि ॥ ८०-१५ ॥

The faults of the diamond are—lines of the shape of the foot of the crow, a fly or a hare or being mixed with other minerals, or covered with holes like gravel, being with split ends, appearing soiled or with dark spots and being of unsteady light or split or broken. Such diamonds are not fit for use.

kAkapadamakSikAkezadhAtuyuktAni zarkarair viddham । dviguNAzri dagdha kaluSatrastavizIrNAni na zubhAni ॥ 80-15 ॥
