वेणातटे विशुद्धं शिरीषकुसुम प्रभं च कौशलकम् । सौराष्ट्रकं आताम्रं कृष्णं सौर्पारकं वज्रम् ॥ ८०-०६ ॥

Diamonds found on the banks of the river Veṇa are white; those found in the province of Audh are somewhat yellow; diamonds found in Saurāṣṭra are somewhat of the colour of copper and those of Saurpāra are black.

english translation

veNAtaTe vizuddhaM zirISakusuma prabhaM ca kauzalakam । saurASTrakaM AtAmraM kRSNaM saurpArakaM vajram ॥ 80-06 ॥

ईषत्ताम्रं हिमवति मतङ्गजं वल्लपुष्पसङ्काशम् । आपीतं च कलिङ्गे श्यामं पौण्ड्रेषु सम्भूतम् ॥ ८०-०७ ॥

The Himālayan diamonds are somewhat of the colour of copper and those found in the Mataṇga mountains are somewhat yellow. Diamonds of Kaliṅga are yellowish and Pauṇḍra diamonds are black.

ISattAmraM himavati mataGgajaM vallapuSpasaGkAzam । ApItaM ca kaliGge zyAmaM pauNDreSu sambhUtam ॥ 80-07 ॥

ऐन्द्रं षडश्रि शुक्लं याम्यं सर्पऽस्यरूपं असितं च । कदलीकाण्डनिकाशं वैष्णवं इति सर्वसंस्थानम् ॥ ८०-०८ ॥

A diamond which is white and has six sides is sacred to Indra; one that is black and of the shape of the mouth of the serpent is sacred to Yama; one that is green and of various shapes is sacred to Viṣṇu.

english translation

aindraM SaDazri zuklaM yAmyaM sarpa'syarUpaM asitaM ca । kadalIkANDanikAzaM vaiSNavaM iti sarvasaMsthAnam ॥ 80-08 ॥

वारुणं अबलागुह्यौपमं भवेत्कर्णिकारपुष्पनिभम् । शृङ्गाटकसंस्थानं व्याघ्राक्षिनिभं च हौतभुजम् ॥ ८०-०९ ॥

A diamond which is of the shape of a female’s genital organ and of the colour of the flower of Karṇikāra (Pterospermum acerifolium) is sacred to Varuṇa; one that is of the shape of the fruit of Śṛṅgāṭaka (Trapa bispinosa) and of the colour of the eyes of the tiger is sacred to Agni.

vAruNaM abalAguhyaupamaM bhavetkarNikArapuSpanibham । zRGgATakasaMsthAnaM vyAghrAkSinibhaM ca hautabhujam ॥ 80-09 ॥

वायव्यं च यवौपमं अशोककुसुमप्रभं समुद्दिष्टम् । स्रोतः खनिः प्रकीर्णकं इत्याकरसम्भवस्त्रिविधः ॥ ८०-१० ॥

A diamond which is of the shape of a grain of barley and of the colour of the flower of the Aśoka is sacred to Vāyu. Diamonds are generally found in rivers, lakes, deep or marshy places.

vAyavyaM ca yavaupamaM azokakusumaprabhaM samuddiSTam । srotaH khaniH prakIrNakaM ityAkarasambhavastrividhaH ॥ 80-10 ॥
