दुष्टस्वभावाः परिवर्जनीया विमर्दकालेषु च न क्षमा याः । यासां असृग्वाअसितनीलपीतं आताम्रवर्णं च न ताः प्रशस्ताः ॥ ७८-१६ ॥

A woman of a wicked nature and one of weak health shall be rejected. A woman whose blood is black, green, yellow, or of copper colour, shall also be rejected.

english translation

duSTasvabhAvAH parivarjanIyA vimardakAleSu ca na kSamA yAH । yAsAM asRgvAasitanIlapItaM AtAmravarNaM ca na tAH prazastAH ॥ 78-16 ॥

या स्वप्नशीला बहुरक्तपित्ता प्रवाहिनी वातकफातिरक्ता । महाशना स्वेदयुताङ्गदुष्ठा या ह्रस्वकेशी पलितान्विता वा ॥ ७८-१७ ॥

A person shall not join in sexual union a woman who sleeps too much, whose blood discharges are excessive, who is of an over-bilious, phlegmatic or windy temperament, who perspires often, who is of defective or extra organs and whose hair is short or grey.

yA svapnazIlA bahuraktapittA pravAhinI vAtakaphAtiraktA । mahAzanA svedayutAGgaduSThA yA hrasvakezI palitAnvitA vA ॥ 78-17 ॥

मांसानि यस्याश्च चलन्ति नार्या महोदरा खिक्खिमिनी च या स्यात् ॥ स्त्रीलक्षणे याः कथिताश्च पापास् ताभिर्न कुर्यात्सह कामधर्मम् ॥ ७८-१८ ॥

A person shall not join in sexual union a woman whose calves are exceedingly fleshy, whose belly is large, who is noisy and who is possessed of other vices described in the chapter on the features of women.

english translation

mAMsAni yasyAzca calanti nAryA mahodarA khikkhiminI ca yA syAt ॥ strIlakSaNe yAH kathitAzca pApAs tAbhirna kuryAtsaha kAmadharmam ॥ 78-18 ॥

शशशोणितसङ्काशं लाक्षारससन्निकाशं अथवा यत् । प्रक्षालितं विरज्यति यच्चासृक्तद्भवेत्शुद्धम् ॥ ७८-१९ ॥

That blood is faultless which resembles the blood of the hare or the juice of red-cotton and which when well rubbed disappears.

english translation

zazazoNitasaGkAzaM lAkSArasasannikAzaM athavA yat । prakSAlitaM virajyati yaccAsRktadbhavetzuddham ॥ 78-19 ॥

यच्छब्दवेदनावर्जितं त्र्यहात्सन्निवर्तते रक्तम् । तत्पुरुषसम्प्रयोगादविचारं गर्भतां याति ॥ ७८-२० ॥

If the blood flow out without pain and noise, and stops after three days, there will be conception at the next sexual union (puṃstrī-samāyoga).

english translation

yacchabdavedanAvarjitaM tryahAtsannivartate raktam । tatpuruSasamprayogAdavicAraM garbhatAM yAti ॥ 78-20 ॥
