सप्त भवन्ति च सारा मेदोमज्जात्वगस्थिशुक्राणि । रुधिरं मांसं चैति प्राणभृतां तत्समासफलम् ॥ ६८-९६ ॥

Strength (sāra) consists in seven things—in the serum of flesh, the marrow of bones, the skin, bones, semen, blood and flesh. We shall now describe the properties of each.

ताल्वोष्ठदन्तपालीजिह्वानेत्रान्तपायुकरचरणैः । रक्ते तु रक्तसारा बहुसुखवनिताअर्थपुत्रयुताः ॥ ६८-९७ ॥

If the mouth, lips, gum of teeth, tongue, corners of eyes, the anus, the hands and feet be red, the person is strong in blood; he will live in comfort and will be married, wealthy and with sons.

स्निग्धत्वक्का धनिनो मृदुभिः सुभगा विचक्षणास्तनुभिः । मज्जामेदःसाराः सुशरीराः पुत्रवित्तयुताः ॥ ६८-९८ ॥

If the skin be glossy, the person will be rich; if soft, he will be happy and prosperous; and if thin, intelligent. Such a person will be strong in marrow. He will possess a fair body. Persons strong in the serum of flesh will be rich and will have sons.

स्थूलास्थिरस्थिसारो बलवान्विद्याअन्तगः सुरूपश्च । बहुगुरुशुक्राः सुभगा विद्वांसो रूपवन्तश्च ॥ ६८-९९ ॥

If the bones be large, the person will be strong in bones. He will be strong, learned and beautiful. If the serum be thick and much in quantity, he will be happy, prosperous, learned and beautiful.

उपचितदेहो विद्वान्धनी सुरूपश्च मांससारो यः । सङ्घाता इति च सुश्लिष्टसन्धिता सुखभुजो ज्ञेया ॥ ६८-१०० ॥

A person of full growth will be learned, rich and beautiful. He will be strong in flesh. If the joints (saṃhati) be close and well-fitted, the person will live in comfort and ease.
