सूर्याग्निभस्मौष्ट्रखरानुवर्णा या निर्जला सा वसुधा प्रदिष्टा । रक्ताङ्कुराः क्षीरयुताः करीरा रक्ता धरा चेज्जलं अश्मनो अधः ॥ ५४-१०६ ॥

If the ground be seen of the colour of the sun, fire, ashes, camel or ass, there will be no water in the locality. But if the Karīra be seen to shoot out, of a red colour, or if the soil be found red, there will be undercurrents lying immediately under stones.

sUryAgnibhasmauSTrakharAnuvarNA yA nirjalA sA vasudhA pradiSTA । raktAGkurAH kSIrayutAH karIrA raktA dharA cejjalaM azmano adhaH ॥ 54-106 ॥

वैदूर्यमुद्ग अम्बुदमेचकऽभा पाकौन्मुखौदुम्बरसन्निभा वा । भङ्ग अञ्जनऽभा कपिलाअथ वा या ज्ञेया शिला भूरिसमीपतोया ॥ ५४-१०७ ॥

Where there are found stones of the colour of Vaidūrya, kidney-bean or of the clouds or of the colour of the fruit of the fig tree when about to ripen, or of the colour of the bee or collyrium or of brown colour, there will be water in the neighbourhood.

vaidUryamudga ambudamecaka'bhA pAkaunmukhaudumbarasannibhA vA । bhaGga aJjana'bhA kapilAatha vA yA jJeyA zilA bhUrisamIpatoyA ॥ 54-107 ॥

पारावत क्षौद्रघृतौपमा या क्षौमस्य वस्त्रस्य च तुल्यवर्णा । या सोमवल्ल्याश्च समानरूपा साप्याशु तोयं कुरुते अक्षयं च ॥ ५४-१०८ ॥

If the stone be of the colour of the pigeon, of honey, of ghee, or of white silk, or of the colour of the Soma plant, there will be an abundant supply of water in the neighbourhood.

ताम्रैः समेता पृषतैर्विचित्रैर् रापाण्डुभस्मौष्ट्रखरानुरूपा । भृङ्गौपमाङ्गुष्ठिकपुष्पिका वा सूर्याग्निवर्णा च शिला वितोया ॥ ५४-१०९ ॥

But if the stone be red or with spots of various colours, or of the colour of the white ashes or the camel, the ass or the bee, or of the colour of the Aṅguṣṭhika flower or of the colour of the sun or fire, there will be no water in the neighbourhood.

tAmraiH sametA pRSatairvicitrair rApANDubhasmauSTrakharAnurUpA । bhRGgaupamAGguSThikapuSpikA vA sUryAgnivarNA ca zilA vitoyA ॥ 54-109 ॥

चन्द्रऽतपस्फटिकमौक्तिकहेमरूपा याश्चैन्द्रनीलमणिहिङ्गुलुकाञ्जनऽभाः । सूर्यौदयांशुहरितालनिभाश्च याः स्युस् ताः शोभना मुनिवचो अत्र च वृत्तं एतत् ॥ ५४-११० ॥

Where stones are found of the colour of the moonlight or crystal or pearl or gold, or of the colour of Vermillion or collyrium, or of the colour of the rising sun. or of the colour of Haritāla, that is, sulphuret of arsenic, there would be prosperity. Thus have we stated the views of Manu on the subject of undercurrents.
