खर्जूरजम्बूअर्जुनवेतसाः स्युः क्षीरान्विता वा द्रुमगुल्मवल्ल्यः । छत्रैभनागाः शतपत्रनीपाः स्युर्नक्तमालाश्च ससिन्दुवाराः ॥ ५४-१०१ ॥

They may be date palms, jambu, arjuna, or milky trees, shrubs and creepers. There will be umbrella elephants, hundred-petalled neem trees, night garlands and lotus flowers.

kharjUrajambUarjunavetasAH syuH kSIrAnvitA vA drumagulmavallyaH । chatraibhanAgAH zatapatranIpAH syurnaktamAlAzca sasinduvArAH ॥ 54-101 ॥

विभीतको वा मदयन्तिका वा यत्रास्ति तस्मिन्पुरुषत्रये अम्भः । स्यात्पर्वतस्यौपरि पर्वतो अन्यस् तत्रापि मूले पुरुषत्रये अम्भः ॥ ५४-१०२ ॥

Wherever there is a vibhitaka or a madayantika, there is water in the three persons. There is another mountain on top of the mountain, and at the root of that mountain there is water in the three persons.

english translation

vibhItako vA madayantikA vA yatrAsti tasminpuruSatraye ambhaH । syAtparvatasyaupari parvato anyas tatrApi mUle puruSatraye ambhaH ॥ 54-102 ॥

या मौञ्जिकैः काशकुशैश्च युक्ता नीला च मृद्यत्र सशर्करा च । तस्यां प्रभूतं सुरसं च तोयं कृष्णाथ वा यत्र च रक्तमृद्वा ॥ ५४-१०३ ॥

Where the earth is found overgrown with the Muñja grass, with reeds and with the Kuśa grass, the soil black and mixed with pebbles, as well as in places where the soil is black or red, there will be undercurrents containing a large supply of sweet water.

english translation

yA mauJjikaiH kAzakuzaizca yuktA nIlA ca mRdyatra sazarkarA ca । tasyAM prabhUtaM surasaM ca toyaM kRSNAtha vA yatra ca raktamRdvA ॥ 54-103 ॥

सशर्करा ताम्रमही कषायं क्षरं धरित्री कपिला करोति । आपाण्डुरायां लवणं प्रदिष्टं मृष्टं[क्-मिष्टम्] पयो नीलवसुन्धरायाम् ॥ ५४-१०४ ॥

If the soil be red and mixed with pebbles, the water will be astringent in its flavour; if it be brown, the water will be saline; if white, it wall be saltish; and if black it will be sweet.

sazarkarA tAmramahI kaSAyaM kSaraM dharitrI kapilA karoti । ApANDurAyAM lavaNaM pradiSTaM mRSTaM[k-miSTam] payo nIlavasundharAyAm ॥ 54-104 ॥

शाकाश्वकर्णार्जुनविल्व सर्जाः श्रीपर्ण्यरिष्टाधवशिंशपाश्च । छिद्रैश्च पत्रैर् द्रुमगुल्मवल्ल्यो रूक्षाश्च दूरे अम्बु निवेदयन्ति ॥ ५४-१०५ ॥

Wherever the trees—Śāka, Aśvakarṇa, Arjuna, Bilva, Sarjā, Śrīparṇī, Ariṣṭa, Dhava and Śiṃśapa are found to grow, or where the leaves of trees, bushes and creepers are found perforated with holes, or where such trees, bushes and creepers put on a forbidding appearance, there will be no water in the neighbourhood,

zAkAzvakarNArjunavilva sarjAH zrIparNyariSTAdhavaziMzapAzca । chidraizca patrair drumagulmavallyo rUkSAzca dUre ambu nivedayanti ॥ 54-105 ॥
