प्रहर हर छिन्धि भिन्धिइत्यायुधकाष्ठाश्मपाणयो बालाः । निगदन्तः प्रहरन्ते तत्रापि भयं भवत्याशु ॥ ४६-७६ ॥

That country would suffer miseries whose ruler respects heretics or atheists, or who refuses to follow the rules of life observed by the great and holy men of the land, or who is of an irascible temper, or who is jealous or fearful, and who is inclined to quarrel with his subjects.

english translation

prahara hara chindhi bhindhiityAyudhakASThAzmapANayo bAlAH । nigadantaH praharante tatrApi bhayaM bhavatyAzu ॥ 46-76 ॥

अङ्गारगैरिकऽद्यैर्विकृतप्रेताभिलेखनं यस्मिन् । नायकचित्रितं अथ वा क्षये क्षयं याति न चिरेण ॥ ४६-७७ ॥

That country will also suffer in which children are found with weapons, pieces of wood or sticks in their hands beating (animals) and uttering such expressions as beat, kill, cut, break and the like.

aGgAragairika'dyairvikRtapretAbhilekhanaM yasmin । nAyakacitritaM atha vA kSaye kSayaM yAti na cireNa ॥ 46-77 ॥

लूतापटाङ्गशबलं न सन्ध्ययोः पूजितं कलहयुक्तम् । नित्यौच्छिष्टस्त्रीकं च यद्गृहं तत्क्षयं याति ॥ ४६-७८ ॥

That house will meet with ruin in whose walls figures of dead men or of the master of the house is drawn with charcoal or red chalk.

english translation

lUtApaTAGgazabalaM na sandhyayoH pUjitaM kalahayuktam । nityaucchiSTastrIkaM ca yadgRhaM tatkSayaM yAti ॥ 46-78 ॥

दृष्टेषु यातुधानेषु निर्दिशेन्मरकं आशु सम्प्राप्तम् । प्रतिघातायएतेषां गर्गः शान्तिं चकारैमाम् ॥ ४६-७९ ॥

That house will also suffer miseries in which is seen the spider’s web or which is not swept clean and adorned with flowers both morning and evening, or in which there is constant quarrel between persons, or where the lady of the house is forever dirty.

dRSTeSu yAtudhAneSu nirdizenmarakaM Azu samprAptam । pratighAtAyaeteSAM gargaH zAntiM cakAraimAm ॥ 46-79 ॥

महाशान्त्यो अथ बलयो भोज्यानि सुमहान्ति च । कारयेत महेन्द्रं च माहेन्द्रीं च समर्चयेत् ॥ ४६-८० ॥

If goblins are seen, there will be plague in the land. Garga has prescribed ceremonies for the expiation of the evils of all miscellaneous portents (utpāta).

mahAzAntyo atha balayo bhojyAni sumahAnti ca । kArayeta mahendraM ca mAhendrIM ca samarcayet ॥ 46-80 ॥
