खञ्जनको नामायं यो विहगस्तस्य दर्शने प्रथमे । प्रोक्तानि यानि मुनिभिः फलानि तानि प्रवक्ष्यामि ॥ ४५-०१ ॥

I shall here state the effects of the first appearance of the bird known as Khañjana (wagtail) on the king’s march as stated by Ṛṣis.

khaJjanako nAmAyaM yo vihagastasya darzane prathame । proktAni yAni munibhiH phalAni tAni pravakSyAmi ॥ 45-01 ॥

स्थूलोअभ्युन्नतकण्ठः कृष्णगलो भद्रकारको भद्रः । आकण्ठमुखात्कृष्णः सम्पूर्णः पूरयत्याशाम् ॥ ४५-०२ ॥

If the bird be one of the species possessing a large body and a long and black neck, it is known as Bhadra; it forebodes good-luck; if it be one of the species black up to the neck or face, it is known as Sampūrṇa; it forebodes success.

sthUloabhyunnatakaNThaH kRSNagalo bhadrakArako bhadraH । AkaNThamukhAtkRSNaH sampUrNaH pUrayatyAzAm ॥ 45-02 ॥

कृष्णो गले अस्य बिन्दुः सितकरटान्तः स रिक्तकृद्रिक्तः । पीतो गोपीत इति क्लेशकरः खञ्जनो दृष्टः ॥ ४५-०३ ॥

If it be one of the species with a dark spot in the neck and with white cheeks, it is known as Rikta; it forebodes evil. If it be yellow, it is known as Gopīta; it also forebodes evil.

kRSNo gale asya binduH sitakaraTAntaH sa riktakRdriktaH । pIto gopIta iti klezakaraH khaJjano dRSTaH ॥ 45-03 ॥

अथ मधुरसुरभिफलकुसुमतरुषु सलिलाशयेषु पुण्येषु । करितुरगभुजगमूर्ध्नि प्रासादौद्यानहर्म्येषु ॥ ४५-०४ ॥

Then, in the sacred reservoirs of water, there were trees with sweet, fragrant fruits and flowers. In the palaces, gardens and mansions of elephants, horses, snakes and elephants.

गोगोष्ठसत्समागमयज्ञौत्सवपार्थिवद्विजसमीपे । हस्तितुरङ्गमशालाच्छत्रध्वजचामरऽद्येषु ॥ ४५-०५ ॥

In the presence of cows, herds, good people, sacrifices, festivals and earthly brāhmaṇas, They also built elephants, horses, stalls, umbrellas, flags, cāmaras and so on.
