त्रिविधः कथितो बालः क्षीरान्नोभयवर्तनः। स्वास्थ्यं ताभ्यामदुष्टाभ्यां दुष्टाभ्यां रोगसम्भवः॥१॥
Children are said to be of three kinds, viz, Ksira Vartana (drinking milk only), Annavartana (eating solid food) and Ubhayavrtana (consuming both). Their health depends when these (milk and solid food) are not vitiated (contaminated), whereas diseases develop when these are vitiated.

trividhaH kathito bAlaH kSIrAnnobhayavartanaH। svAsthyaM tAbhyAmaduSTAbhyAM duSTAbhyAM rogasambhavaH॥1॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयदद्भिरेकतां याति न च दोषैरधिष्ठितम् । तद्विशुद्धं पयो वाताद्दुष्टं तु प्लवतेऽम्भसि ॥ २ ॥
Adushta and Dushta Stanya Lakshana: Properties of non-vitiated and vitiated breast milk: That which becomes completely homogeneous (mixes uniformly) when poured into water and is not afflicted by the vitiated Doshas is recognized as pure (non-vitiated) breast milk. Conversely, breast milk vitiated by Vata floats on the surface of water.

yadadbhirekatAM yAti na ca doSairadhiSThitam । tadvizuddhaM payo vAtAdduSTaM tu plavate'mbhasi ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकषायं फेनिलं रूक्षं वर्चोमूत्रविबन्धकृत् । पित्तादुष्णाम्लकटुकं पीतराज्यप्सु दाहकृत् ॥ ३ ॥
Breast milk vitiated by Vata is astringent in taste, frothy, dry (non-unctuous), and causes obstruction of feces and urine in the child. That vitiated by Pitta is hot, sour, and pungent, forms yellow-colored streaks when dropped into water, and gives rise to a burning sensation.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptकफात्सलवणं सान्द्रं जले मज्जति पिच्छिलम् । संसृष्टलिङ्गं संसर्गात्त्रिलिङ्गं सान्निपातिकम् ॥ ४ ॥
Breast milk vitiated by Kapha is slightly salty, thick, slimy, and sinks to the bottom of the water. When vitiated by a combination of two Doshas, it exhibits mixed symptoms (Samsargaja); when all three Doshas are simultaneously involved (Sannipataja), characteristics of all three Doshas are present.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथास्वलिङ्गांस्तद्व्याधीन् जनयत्युपयोजितम्। शिशोस्तीक्ष्णमभीक्ष्णं च रोदनाल्लक्षयेद्रुजम्॥५॥
when consumed it gives rise to diseases arising from the corresponding Dosha (or Doshas) vitiating the milk, Pain in an infant (who cannot speak) must be diagnosed and understood through its intense, sharp, and continuous crying.
