Our (author's) thanks to that wonderful physician who has destroyed all the diseases like passions etc. which are always after the human being, which are spread in the entire body and which keep giving rise to curiosity, attachment and anxiety (restlessness). We bow in front of that physician.

In this verse author tells about purpose of Ayurveda - Age is the means (means of attainment) of these three efforts named Dharma, Artha, Sukh (Kama), hence a person who wishes for age (Sukhayu) should pay utmost (special) respect to the teachings specified in Ayurveda Shastras.

Brahmaji was the first to remember (meditate) Ayurveda Shastra and made Dakshprajapati accept it i.e. taught it. Dakshprajapati had taught Ashwinikumars, Ashwinikumars had taught Devraj Indra, he had taught Atriputra (Punarvasu Atreya) etc. Maharishis; Atreya etc. had taught Agnivesh, Bheda, Jatukarna, Parashar, Harit, Ksharpani etc. and then the Maharishis like Agnivesh etc. composed different Tantras (Ayurveda Shastras) in detail.
